How to delete an entry in the IP Blocker table?
« on: April 26, 2017, 02:07:52 PM »
I would like to delete a row in my "IP Blocker"
         - "Currently-Blocked IP Addresses:" table.

For example, the first line of the table has:
Server Setting   Beginning IP   Ending IP            Actions
207.248.240.   207.248.240.0   207.248.240.0    Delete
When I click "Delete" I would expect this line to go away.
Instead I get the message -
"Failed to remove the IP restriction on 207.248.240. because of the following error: DenyIp::deldenyip(207.248.240.) failed: Error: invalid argument, requires IP"

What's the issue here?

I there some way to delete this whole table and start over - e.g., using the "File Manager"

P.S.: when I entered 207.248.240. I expected it to translate to
207.248.240.0 to 207.248.240.255 - but that was years ago.

This file with this information is probably visible somewhere near the top of your site file tree. You can probably manually edit it with the built-in File Manager editor (just make a backup copy first, just in case). It might even just be part of the .htaccess file. Once you know the format, you'll probably find it much easier to manually edit these things than to fight with various specialty functions (IP block, hotlink protection whitelist, etc.).

I could not find it - do you know where it is?
I tied to search - for ip,  block, one of the table entries, etc. - nothing comes up.

The delete feature seems to be screwed up, unless I'm missing something, and should be fixed.  I don't think the IP-deny function is so esoteric - expect it get some regular use.

I have cPanel, not LPCP, so I don't know the specifics. Have you looked inside your .htaccess file, to see if the list of blocked IP addresses is inside there? If it is, you should be able to manually edit .htaccess to remove the address in question.

cPanel | LPCP ?
Mine says "cPanel 62.0.21" at the bottom.  What's LPCP?
Maybe I posted in the wrong sub-forum - I'll re-post.
.htaccess ?
I can't get at my .htaccess.
When I search for "htaccess" I get
"/public_html/.htaccess"
but when I open public_html in the file manager
no .xxx files show  [show dotfiles is checked in settings]
.xxx files do show in the other directories

Any point in sending this to support ?

Anyone else have any ideas ?

Since you appear to have cPanel for a control panel, I moved your other thread over here. LPCP is Lunarpage's homebrewed proprietary control panel, standard on all newer servers (Linux-based).

As for why you don't see your root .htaccess, I don't know -- it should always exist, even if it's empty. My guess is that you either aren't looking in the right directory, or you didn't set the switch to show "dot" files correctly. If you still can't get to your .htaccess, you'll need to open a support ticket and have them walk you through it. Can you see .htaccess in the directory listing, but just not open it? The permissions should be 644 (rw-r--r--).

OK - I found the .htaccess in my public_html - deleted all the IP lines that I don't recognize and now the IP Deny deletion function works OK.  I don't know how I could have missed that file before, if it was there.  It's the first file listed after the directories list.

Now the fact that the IP Deny list is in .htaccess in the public_html would indicate that the list is used for web page access only.  Does that mean that an IP on my deny list can still deposit email into my domain?

As far as I know, the IP block list has no effect on email... that's an entirely different system than the web server. If you want to block emails from certain spammers' IP addresses, you might be able to configure that in SpamAssassin (I don't know -- I haven't tried it).
