Excel was removed as an Import option from phpMyAdmin on cPanel but is still an option for phpMyAdmin on Lunarpages Control Panel.  This happened in the last few weeks, e.g. after end of September 2011.  That is insulting to those of us who have been long time users of Lunarpages (e.g 10 years or more).  I complained.  If this hit you, a complaint may help.  It was stupid.

Hi meiere2,

A lot of the cPanel servers are being updated which might have caused the change. If you haven't already done so I would recommend sending off an email to support@lunarpages.com so they can verify any changes in effect for the cPanel servers.

Thanks to both people who replied.  Seems like I always benefit from talking to others.

1) alen123.  I haven't lost my admin panel.  What is missing from phpMyAdmin 3.2.4 is the option to upload a database table from Excel.  This option is available in version 3.3.5.1.  I host two websites with Lunarpages; one of which has access to version 3.2.4 and other to version 3.3.5.1.  Catch 22 is that I can't use the one I want on my 10 year old website.

2)  Michael T.  I appreciate your suggestion to write to support@Lunarpages.  The response was, at first, Excel is there.  Then, oops, our mistake it is not there but we have no control over phpMyAdmin or cPanel.  The response was from a "junior" level person so it was not clear if intelligent arguments were of any use.  However, it seems obvious that they can pick and choose since they offer some subscribers the later version.

It is very inconvenient for me because I go from MS Word to Excel and then to the database.  Writing first to a CSV file has several frustrations, such as single quote and apostrophe in Word drive the database crazy when I go through CSV files.

I was hoping that any long time users who are getting screwed with the old version would complain, as I did.

So far, not much luck with Lunarpages.

Any case, thanks for your time.

Correction on the version numbers.  My older website uses cPanel which offers version 3.4.5 of phpMyAdmin.  Still no Excel option for importing.
My newer website on LunarPagesControlPanel has regressed to version 3.3.10.2 of phpMyAdmin.  Still offers Excel option for importing database tables.

Hard to keep up with the version changes but easy to notice the missing options since they are frustrating.
