What is up with the File Manager on Laffan? Every time I try to edit a file that uses some script-like code, the File Manger converts the tags into gibberish. It even takes the space ("& nbsp ;") and displays it as a null space(" ") instead of showing the code. Likewise anything on the page that uses the ampersand "&" becomes "&" when opened for editing in the File Manager.

If that is how the File Manger is suppose to work, how does one go about installing a better version for personal use? I need one that doesn't corrupt the code like the current one does.  Sad

The editor in Cpanel can do that at times on any of the servers. Want a good editor? Get tswebeditor free at http://tswebeditor.net.tc/ It's terrific! You can work with several files at one time, it highlights tags, it can work with local files or files on the server and save them right back to the server. Much better than Notepad for the readme files that go all over the place in Notepad. Even has a php syntax checker. Very nice.

Thanks, but I'm already using EditPlus for my text editor Smile I need something server-based for when I'm not at home with my local files.

When you're away from home, are you using a Windows computer? If you don't have any other FTP software on that computer, you can use Window's FTP protocol in the browser:
http://ftp://username@domain.com

That way, you can drag and drop your files to the server in a familiar interface without having to use cPanel file manager. Plus you wouldn't need to install additonal (ie, FTP) software on a computer that doesn't belong to you.

If you use Mac, Fetch is included by default, I think.

Apparently the issue was something server-side  Very Happy  Laffan was moved last night and today CPanel is working perfectly. It is even displaying the disk space correctly! File Manager is no longer replacing the nbsp character will empty spaces and php files can be edited without getting every & turned into &

Yipee!  Surprised
