Hi !,

New to everything and learning...
I tested Fantastico and installed the E commerce (CubeCart).
My question is, can i use Cpanel and protect access to the CubeCart if it is not for public viewing.  I did try and set it up in Cpanel and it works to a point; if i for example install CubeCart in /shop, and the password protect it, when i try to access that page the password entry form pops up; all ok.

But when i enter the user names and password i se-up it does not take ?.
3 tries, still dont work. Checked my caps Smile and thats not it.

Anyone know what i am doing wrong ?.

Thx !,
MH

Go back into the Password Protect Directories configs, and redo the username and password. Then try it again.  Sometimes if it doesn't take the first time, I find that if I redo them, it works Very Happy

Tried to enter again and even deleted a few times.  Still dont work.  i get following message after 3 attempts;

Authorization Required
This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Any suggestions; pls raise.  As i am using one script from fantastico; will it disable the password protection function or should i be able to protect  Confused

Where are the usernames being set up? In the password applet in cPanel or in CubeCart?

In the Cpanel, i.e. i choose the directory /shop where i set up the cubeCart and then password protect that directory in Cpanel applet.

Any ideas ?. It should work right ?.

Okay, Please follow the below steps in order to resolve the issue.
(Note: This has been tested and works accurately on one case)

1. Delete the database in which was installed to hold the Shopping Cart
2. Delete the directory the Shopping Cart created when it was installed.
3. Using Fantastico, intall the Shopping Cart of your choice.
4. After it is installed, go back to the main page of cPanel and click "Password Protect Directories".
5. Click on the directory you wish to protect
Please use the below steps in order to configure it properly:
a. Check "Directory requires a password to access via the web"
b. Scroll down and create a username and password
Username: admin
Password: test
c. Click "Add/modify authorized user"
6. Open up INTERNET EXPLORER, and in your address bar, type in the full URL to access the main page of that directory. (i.e. http://domain.com/shop)
7. When prompted for a username and password, type in
Username: admin
Password: test
***NOTE, IT MAY PROMPT YOU SEVERAL TIMES AFTER YOU TYPE IT IN ONCE, BUT JUST KEEP TYPING IT IN AND IT WILL LET YOU IN AFTER A COUPLE OF TIMES***

P.S., If you continue to have problems setting this up, you can PM me your cPanel information and what directory you would like this installed to and I will be more than happy to do this for you.
