I set up cgi counter with the help of cPanel.  Now, how do I query the counter?

Hi. You talking about a page hit counter or a countdown? What is it you want to do with it? The numbers are stored in the .dat file it uses.

I am talking about a hit counter.  I want to periodically see what the current count is.

Ah, well normally the counter will show on the page you put it on. I like to use invisible counters and a standalone page that isn't linked to anything to view the counters.

Paste the code you got from cpanel into the page you want to count hits on. To the end of the code, add "|sh=f" before the > to make it  not show. To add a counter to other pages you can paste the same text but change the name of the .dat file in it. Each counter must have a unique name.

To view the counters, create another web page and call it what you like. I like to use a table to line my counters up and add text describing each. Paste in the same code for each counter but remove "sh=f" or change it to "sh=t" I also add "|incr=F|comma=T" to make it not increment when I view the stats and add the , in 10,000 rather than showing 10000.

Thank you.  That is exactly what I needed to know.

THANK YOU.  I didn't ask the question, but it was exactly what I was looking for when I went to the search function tonight.   Smile

It's getting late here, but I can't wait to do this!

Kind Regards.

You're welcome. Counters aren't as accurate as the stats are but they can give you a sense of what is popular and what's not, is someone checking out my awards or privacy notice pages, etc. They're also easy to paste into an excel workbook and generate a chart from if you really want to go nuts with them or show a customer the results.
