OK, I have done it before, but this time I am having problems.

Previous directories that I have PWP work ok. Trying to add new directories, or even adding new access to existing ones, is not working. Can not access them, via the web. CP shows the proper directories and users, but still no luck.

Help!

If cPanel isn't working, I would go ahead and contact support@lunarpages.com

It "works" in the sense that I can enter all the info I want. It takes, but doesn't work.

OK, you have password-protected directory secret, and its permissions are 755. It works OK. You add a directory under "secret", called agent. Its permissions are 755. To access secret/agent you should be prompted for ID and password (the ones used for secret). What happened? How does your setup differ from what I described?

It prompts me for both a user name and p/w. When I access with the original user name and p/w, it works fine. For any new users that I have added, it just reverts back to the prompt for user name and p/w when I enter that info.

So the first ID and password work fine? How did you add the additional IDs and passwords? Did you manually update the files or did you use cPanel's functions? If the former, I'm wondering if you hashed the passwords in a different way than the system is expecting.

I used cPanel. I have no idea how to do it by other means.

Hmm. You had the first directory (secret) password protected. Then you added a second directory "agent" under secret. Did you add a new ID and password for secret or for agent? If you added it for agent (rather than secret), that might be your problem. If you went to access agent, you'd first have to give a valid ID and password for secret. Then you'd have to give the ID and password for agent. Is this the arrangement? I would not separately password protect agent, but keep all the IDs and passwords at secret level, unless you have a need to let someone into secret, but keep them out of agent.

"Secret" and "Agent" are 2 p/w protected sub-directories, off of the main directory.

Basically, what I am doing is..........

Making sub-directories that store test data for my customers. I don't want to put all the data in one sub-directory, because then they will all know what test data I have, and for what customer. That would let competitors know what the other one is working on. I don't think that they would like that!

Ah, so you have /secret and /agent (siblings, not parent-child)?

You gave the two directories separate IDs and passwords, but it's only taking one of the IDs/passwords, and for both? Or is it only accepting the first ID and password that you define for each directory? That's very odd. I would try removing IDs and passwords from both, and re-creating the IDs and passwords (a clean re-do). If it still fails, support will have to look at it.
