Hi, I'm a new user of Lunarpages and I have some questions about Hotlink. Forgot my poor english, I'm an italian gal!  Confused
Does Hotlink create some problems with search engine? If I'll enable it, search engine pull out my site of the listing?

And well, I have read on this forum some tutorials how's fix up the problem of .htacces file.  If I open my .htaccess file it's empty and you guys talk about editing the code on it... Well... What I must do if it's empty?  Confused

Thanks for your help!

It's ok if .htaccess is empty. If you set up hotlink protection in cPanel, .htaccess will automatically be filled with the appropriate code for you.

Hotlink protection protects images from people displaying your images in their web pages, so it shouldn't effect the rest of your pages in search engine listings. Also, the images are still accessible directly, so the search engines should still be able to access them if that's what you want. They may not be able to show the images on their pages. However, if you want, you could add the domains of the search engines to the whitelist of your hotlist settings to allow the search engines to show your images on their pages.

If you use cPanel Hotlink protection to set things up, it will write the code in the file for you.

okay, then go here: http://www.francescadani.com/cpanel

Then go to HotLink Protection, then activate Hotlink Protection. Add all the domains you want to allow to show your images, including your own. If you don't add your domains, your images won't show up.

You need to add your site's domain name, in addition to the forums, to the whitelist. You also need to enter both versions of your domain URL:
www.domain.com
domain.com
