My Webalizer stats show that my website gets around 18,000 page impressions a month. Most of the traffic goes to the forum, so because I wanted to see exactly what traffic was going to the forum and what to the rest of the site, I've had google analytics tracking the main website for a while, and it gets around 5,000 page impressions a month.

I just started using google analytics for the forum too, and it's showing around 40,000 page views a month for the forum, so a total of 45,000 page views incuding the rest of the site.

This is quite a difference! Am I misinterpreting something, or is there a reason for this big difference?

Well, even Google Analytics will tell you that they are not the best at exact numbers - because they are only tracking what they can see via your javascript you have embedded on all your pages.  It is a tool that is much better at watching traffic trends.  This page here has a pretty good discussion about it:

Hope that helps!
