Hello,

Another important kernel patch update has been released for CentOS. For our managed ultra and instense customers, we will begin updating the kernel for your server starting today to the newest release. Please note that a kernel upgrade does require a server reboot.

For our non-managed and managed lite customers, you may email to request we upgrade your kernel for a flat fee of $45.00. Please ensure to provide your control panel username, primary domain name and the last 4 digits of your credit card on file when requesting this feature in your ticket to dedicated@lunarpages.com

For those who prefer to perform the update themselves, you may normally do in root shell the following command:

yum upgrade

After the upgrade, you would then reboot the server using:

reboot

This will then boot to the new kernel after the server is back online after the reboot. You can always do the following command prior to the upgrade and after the upgrade to check that the kernel did update:

uname -r

If you have any questions on this, please let us know at dedicated@lunarpages.com

Thank you,
Lunarpages Systems Administrator Team

After installing newer kernel, you have to open /boot/grub/menu.lst
and change  default=1  to  default=0

Then reboot. you will see newer kernel is runnning.

did what you suggested arph - then when typed:uname -r
I got 2.6.9-89.0.11.EL - did that do the trick?

In WHM it's still CENTOS 4.8 not sure if that should change, it's the same as before.

Now your kernel was updated, right?
It's a bit strange to have to change the menu.lst after updating kernel.
My local CentOS4.8 and Debian don't need that.
I guess it's because of Cpanel server.

CentOS4.8 is the latest version of CentOS4 series.
So our ded servers have the newest version.

Hi Pap,

2.6.9-89.0.11 is the latest kernel available for CentOS 4 for now and Centos 4.8 is the latest release in that CentOS branch so you are up to date!  Thumbs Up
