Hello
SMART disk drives internally monitor the disks own health and performance. In many cases, the disk itself provides advance warning that something is wrong and as mr Vlad stated in the previous reply is possible does not know some new drives and showing incorrect info for them.
Please see
http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net for download and installation instruction and additional documentation can be found in the man pages (man smartctl and man smartd) and on the Web page.
Next I will present some commands can be used for checking drives using smart:
1)smartctl -i /dev/hda
-lists model/firmware information about the disk and please use this command as root and the correct path to your harddrives .
2)smartctl -Hc /dev/hda
-shows the results of the health status inquiry. If your disk health status is FAILING please contact our support immediately at
support@lunarpages.com and our technicians will immediately check your drives.
3)smartctl -A /dev/hda
-lists the disk's table.Normally are listed a part of attributes
4)smartctl -l error /dev/hda
-list a log of the disk errors
5)smartctl -l selftest /dev/hda
-is a report of the self-tests run on the disk. There are 2 types of tests long and short.
You can control and fine-tune the behavior of smartd using the configuration file /etc/smartd.conf.
I hope this information is helpful and if you have more question related to your server please feel free to contact our support at
support@lunarpages.com and we will be more than happy to assist you further.
Thank you.
