Setting up a site and FTP
« on: August 30, 2010, 04:44:16 PM »
I am trying to start a website with Dreamweaver CS4.  I clicked on start a new site and entered the URL and I can't get the FTP to work so I can upload my site.  Can anyone guide me through this process? Thanks!

I did the same thing when I started with Dreamweaver several years ago and thank goodness Lunarpages has telephone tech support or I'm sure I would have never got my site off the ground.  You may have only set up your Local Information.  You need to open the Remote Info tab - drop down click FTP and enter the remote information given to you by Lunarpages for FTP set up.  You can get these instructions again under "hosting information button" when you login.  Hope this helps.

here's a decent walkthrough, CS4 has made most of the old simple dreamweaver functions a lot more messy and harder to work with

the following guide should give you a good start, post back if you have any issues:

FTP allows you to upload and download files from your personal computer to your web server or vice versa. If you have a website, setting up FTP to transfer your files will make your life easier. There is a plenty of FTP software available on the Internet. Some of them are Free while others require you to pay.

I hope this also helpful to you.

All you need is an FTP server and a client. If you running Linux, most likely, you just need to run ftpd and use a client like Filezilla to transfer files.
