I am new to dreamweaver.  I have all the files and folders for my site both on my computer, and on LP server.

When I first started DW, I created a local site, and a remote site with the wizard.  I pointed the path to where my files are stored both locally and remotely (on the LP server).

My question is...what is the difference when you are working with the files.  I can connect to the "remote view" edit an html doc, and refresh the page, but nothing changes on the site until I upload the file via my ftp program.

Does this make sense?  If I had to guess, Remote View would mean you are workign on the server, and any changes are made immediatly.  Local View would mean you are working on the local computer, and until you save, and upload the files, no changes will appear on the page you made the changes to.  Is this correct, and if so, why is this not the way for me?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That confused me in the beginning, too. When you use Remote View, you're actually editing a local copy of the file. That's why you still have to Put the file (from within DW; you don't need a separate FTP client).

However, when you do other things to files in Remote View, such as delete, copy, move, it will effect the actual files on the server so proceed with caution when working in Remote View.

It's like uploading the file. DW calls it Put. It's the up arrow.

DreamWeaver is an odd program compaired to normal FTP.  It will sync the files (If im correct) and then when you go to edit it will change the file on your computer, then it will upload it to your web space.  This is similar to FrontPage but FrontPage requires special extentions and doesn't like to be told what to do (No PHP).

I don't know. I guess I don't have it set to sync automatically, if that is a setting.
