I've been using DW for several years but have never needed to give access to my site for FTP.  I'm teaching some continuing ed students the basics of DW and have setup ftp accounts for them like: student101, student102, etc.

After I setup the account I used cPanel and the password protect function to add their username to the directory that matches their FTP name such as: /public_html/student101

When I use an FTP program with credentials such as:  student101@mydomain.com I can see the /public_html/student 101 directory and it's contents.

However in DW using the same credentials I get the message "An FTP error occurred - cannot open remote folder /public_html/student101/.  The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem."

I've also gone back into the cPanel and set the flag on the directory that says the directory is password protected with the same results.  I've also tried with leaving all permissions and usernames off of the directory in cPanel.

If anyone has a suggestion please let me know.
Thanks

Not that familiar with Dreamweaver myself, but did find a lot of solutions here.  Try some of those out and let us know if they work. Very Happy

When creating the dreamweaver credentials leave the directory entry blank. Dreamweaver will see the directory you designated as the home directory in cpanel as the root directory for that user.

Thanks to both of you for your replies - wektech had it on the nose!   Leaving the directory blank solved the problem!

MANY Thanks!
