I have an addon domain. In the past, this domain was an entirely separate entity from my other domain.

I copied-and-pasted the old site from DW 4.0 to a DWMX 2004. I configured the site and created the cache. Then I uploaded the new site to my subdirectory.

Now, I'm having linking problems. For some reason, DW wants to kick certain links up a level, even though I'm using the file-picking tool and have specified the links to be document-relative (that's how they were originally set up, too).

Here's an example: on my subdomain's index page (http://www.elizabethhanes.com/sav), in the colored box on the right, if you click on "Couple Cancels Marriage Due to Low Ratings," you get a file not found because it's getting kicked up to my main domain.

I have tried to change the link manually (deleting the ../) and by re-picking the file through the program, but the change just won't take. Besides, I have this problem occurring throughout the site.

Someone puh-leeze tell me I'm not going to have to hand-check every single link on the site.  Shock.!!

I'm puzzled as to why the links that formerly worked now do not, and also why only some of the links are affected. It doesn't seem like it should matter that the site is now a subdomain. I set the remote destination directory as "public_html/sav", so the relationships between the links should remain the same as they were when the domain stood independently on the server, shouldn't they?

Any thoughts or ideas on this? As a thank-you in advance, please enjoy a chuckle by reading my "masterpiece":

I don't think the problem is with DW, it's with LP. I have the same dilemma with my subdomains. Sad I have solutions like using the absolute file path or the URL of the files, instead of relative linking, but maybe others can chime in with better alternatives.

Ugh, I don't relish the idea of having to go through every page in the site to check the links.  argh...!!!  This is why I hate changing hosts, and why I hope I'll be with LP for good now!

If I decide to go the absolute path route, is there a way to convert all the links globally in DW, or am I still stuck with manually tweaking every freakin' one?

Thanks, TranzNDance!

I'm not sure if it will work in your case or not, but Find & Replace is a great tool.

Yes, and in DW, you can set it to search for all the files in the site, so you don't have to manually hunt them down.

The absolute file path method works, but I've seen exceptions, such as when I want to link a CSS file from a different subdomain. In that case, I have to use the URL. I have also been able to use the absolute path for includes. Just back up all your files before you do Find/Replace.

Thanks for the suggestion, Skeetley. I'm not sure it would work, either. Find...what? All "a href"?

I guess it would be just as quick, or quicker, than opening each page and viewing it.

I will mess around with F&R to see if I can get it to work.

ACK!  argh...!!!

Of course, the problem turned out to be my own stupidity, which I have come back here to admit.

I had inexplicably created a subfolder within my site root in DW, and that's where my site was residing. Well, NO WONDER the links didn't work correctly on the live site!  Sad

I copied and pasted my site into my site root folder and ~voila~ everything's running smoothly now.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to apologize to Skeetley. In re-reading what I wrote in response to your suggestion, I felt I came across snotty, and that wasn't my intention at all. Rather, I was just feeling exasperated at the situation in general. Sorry if you took any offense.  Embarassed

Thanks again, everyone, for your suggestions and help!  Luff Ya
