I am new to Lunarpages and am trying to decide whether I should stay.  Perhaps you could help me in making my decision by responding to any or all of the following points.  My difficulty has been the following:

1)  Several months ago Lunarpages was recommended to me by someone who contributes to the Adobe Dreamweaver Forum.  When I purchased my account, however, I was told that Dreamweaver and Lunarpages are not compatible.  This forum suggests that there is some compatibility.

2)  Having been persuaded by Lunarpages that I should not use Dreamweaver I selected FETCH instead.  When I went to upload my files, I was surprised that the folder structure in which my files were contained on my local site had been lost -- this despite the fact that all of the files arrived safely.  When I contacted Lunarpages I was told to use c-Panel for folder construction.  This procedure seems unusually awkward.

3)  I am in the process of building a web application on a MacBook with MAMP-Pro.  MAMP-Pro is a user interface for MAMP which is a software package for PHP and MYSQL.  When I asked Lunarpages to provide with the information that I required to configure my MAMP-Pro interface they told me to contact MAMP-Pro.  How can MAMP-Pro know what information Lunarpages requires?

4) I am nearly convinced that Lunarpages expects you to build your entire site using only Lunarpages software.

Please respond only as your knowledge and experience permits.

Do you remember where or who told you this?

That is simply not the case.  We have many successful web sites hosted here that people have designed in Dreamweaver.

When your files are uploaded (no matter which program you use to do so) you need to make sure they are uploaded to the public_html folder.  I'm not really familiar with how FETCH handles file uploads, but if it uses the same controls as your standard FTP program, that shouldn't be a problem.

On the MAMP-Pro issues, Lunarpages can provide you a way to find the information that MAMP-Pro requires (such as "how do I create a database") however, we can not support every third party application out there, if you are unsure on how to make it work.  You should go to the creator of the program to get support for the program itself.

Please feel free to share any more details here, or any questions you might have and we'd be more than happy to help.

Sales told me about the non-compatibility of Dreamweaver, and Support told me about the use of c-Panel and their unwillingness to help me with my MAMP-Pro configuration.

You have made me feel good about the advice that I received from the Adobe Dreamweaver Forum.

This much i knew.  What I need to know are the limitations that Lunarpages places on Dreamweaver.  Have you ever managed a website created by Dreamweaver that uses Lunarpages as its remote server?  There are a fairly large number of protocol options, and the ones that I have selected are apparently the wrong ones.  As the combinatorial permutations are quite numerous, I would hate to feel obligated to experiment with the entire gamut, when someone already knows what works and what does not.

I provided Lunarpages with an image of the MAMP-Pro panel with which I was having trouble.  I showed them the exact information that I needed and what I was able to find in the Lunarpages knowledge base.  It was simply a matter of matching labels with information and providing any additional information that did not appear in the knowledge base.

You appear to be the Lunarpages cheerleader.
Thank you for responding.

Not sure about which version of Dreamweaver you are using exactly, however some of these tutorials might help you with the basics of getting setup:

http://wiki.lunarpages.com/Dreamweaver_Tutorials

Once you get it setup, does it simply just not connect? time out? do you get a specific error warning or message?  Let us know a little more about what is going wrong in the process from what you can see, and I am sure some of the smart people around these forums will be able to give you some pointers.   Thumbs Up

Thank you for the link.  I will explore it before writing again.
In the meantime I am using Adobe's Dreamweaver CS3.
