O.K. this is my dilemma, I created a template in Photoshop, added pics, then sliced it in image ready, opened it up in Dreamweaver but cannot add text. I then re-sliced the .psd file several times until I finally was able to edit the template with text. Now my problem is that every time I add text it turns that particular part white. What gives?

I did the entire page the way I want it to look like in Photoshop, however I want to be able to edit the content without using Photoshop every time I update the site. I am using the same template throughout the site with the exception of three pages, same template, same layout, just different headers.

If this problem of mine is simple enough that someone can guide me through it that would be great. All I want to do is setup the template so I can edit the text the way I would like on the page. I just want to click on certain parts of the template and add text so it can resemble the way I did it in Photoshop.

Thank you for your help

It might help to post a link to your page and/or include a screenshot pointing out changes.

Basically, what you want to do seems like taking a photograph to write a novel... two different media.

My sis in law does nearly all the graphics of her web-pages in Photoshop.  I'll ask her about this.

TranzNDance, I would like to do that but I have no way of hosting the page. The site isn’t up yet (no link). Confused

RickJ, That sound great! It is truly appreciated. Thumbs Up

Perhaps I can email you both the page with a brief description, let me know.

Thanks

Here it is:

If you look at the "Explained JPEG" it is color coordinated.

Red represents images that I can edit using Photoshop.

Yellow represents where I would like to edit with text.

I would like to get it like this in an HTML editor like Dreamweaver. This was done by me in Photoshop.

Thanks TranzNDance

Susan wrote me back - and informed me that she just learned that her good friends son, Andre L. Williams, was one of the Ohioans killed in Iraq recently.

She's put a tribute to him on her site at http://www.comadvertisingassociates.com.  It's a giant file that they'll use at the funeral.

Her regular site showing some of her work should be back up soon...and like I said, she does almost everything by slicing stuff in PS.

Yes, she is quite busy - and her response to my copy/pasting of your first post is very brief.  I hope it helps:

She said,

"tell him this: He can actually make the image that is supposed to go in the table cell the BACKGROUND image of that cell and then can add the text right over the top of the background in the cell... simple!"

I hope it helps!

First of all, I would like to extend my condolences to the family and friends of Andre L Williams. My wife, 1 year old son (birthday today 8/5) and I, viewed the file at the site. We thought the tribute was absolutely wonderful.  My wife was so moved by it that she was in tears and I have to admit that I was extremely moved as well.

GOD Bless You, Andre L Williams and all of the soldiers whose lives were lost. GOD Bless the rest of you all who are still there.

Well I did that and the sections that I put text on turns white and does some weird things like being unable to align it properly.

I knew that whatever her response was, I wouldn't understand it myself...and I'm sorry that it did not solve the issue.

Maybe when she gets her regular site back up you can - knowing it was made with PS - learn more by digging into it a bit.

I'd refer you to the Adobe Forum for Photoshop, but frankly the few times I've tried to get an answer there I've been left pretty disappointed...

Hey RickJ, thank for your help,  the problem was the code that ImageReady converts it to. My buddy and I went over it with a fine tooth comb and I am now able to edit it with text, however now I need to set the margins for the text. That is my next mission. Still trying to figure that out. Embarassed

Here's a thread that appears to discuss your situation.

And there's several more related threads here:

Have you considered getting Fireworks instead? It is far far easier to do image slicing for templating such as this than Photoshop. Photoshop isn't even intended for doing this as it is for photography and image creation and editing, it isn't for website related templates and slicing, which is exactly what Fireworks is for.

I would have purchased Macromedia Studio rather than just Dreamweaver as the cost isn't that much higher than a single copy of Dreamweaver (and perhaps you did even which is what I hope happened).  Macromedia Studio would include Fireworks with it, then you could simply import the psds from Photoshop into Fireworks, slice them there in Fireworks and easily create rollovers, menus and text. Fireworks and Dreamweaver in Studio are intended to work together as well, so you gain overall benefits from using Fireworks in conjuction with Dreamweaver

If you were using Fireworks, I could provide input as in the past I have used Fireworks to do just what you are talking about.  I can't with PhotoShop as I haven't used it for that and don't even particularly like Photoshop as it isn't intuitive at all Sad

Danielle, your words are truly inspirational because I do have Macromedia Studio. It was given to me as a gift. I just found that whole suite intimidating, never used Fireworks MX 2004, Extension Manager, Flash MX 2004 and FreeHand MXa before. As you can tell by now, Dreamweaver MX 2004 is no piece of cake for me either.

I’ve created rollovers and menus in Dreamweaver before and I’ve also used Photoshop for some time now, but for some reason, this whole slicing from Photoshop to Dreamweaver is proving to be quite a battle. I feel comfortable using Photoshop (notice my death grip on Photoshop) but I realize now that it just isn’t working out too well for me. Time for a change.

Any help would be appreciated.
