Danielle, your words are truly inspirational because I do have Macromedia Studio. It was given to me as a gift. I just found that whole suite intimidating, never used Fireworks MX 2004, Extension Manager, Flash MX 2004 and FreeHand MXa before. As you can tell by now, Dreamweaver MX 2004 is no piece of cake for me either.

I’ve created rollovers and menus in Dreamweaver before and I’ve also used Photoshop for some time now, but for some reason, this whole slicing from Photoshop to Dreamweaver is proving to be quite a battle. I feel comfortable using Photoshop (notice my death grip on Photoshop) but I realize now that it just isn’t working out too well for me. Time for a change.

Any help would be appreciated.
Dan

Tonight, I'm going to work in taking your images and trying in Fireworks to do what you are wanting, then posting the steps on what I've done there tonight or tomorrow.  I'll also try to find any good how-tos for Fireworks as Macromedia site itself has some really good articles there.

Hey, I just was browsing the forum and came across your image problem. Has it been resolved yet? I see it's been a week.
I got my start five years ago using Photoshop to design, ImageReady to slice, and Dreamweaver to build the site. Now that css is all the rage, most designers are setting background images using a .css file instead of tables. You may want to look into it. It's confusing at first, and I admit, my own sites do not rely heavily on css for image placement. And, shame on me, I still rely on tables for layout because I cannot guarantee that every user of mine will have an up-to-date browser that can read complicated css layouts!

Back to your problem. Usually, designers choose a layout color that can be reproduced using hex colors so that table cells that need text can be left empty of images and the background color can be set to match the rest of the layout. Did you need a patterned background, and is that why you need to put text over an image?

OK I just tried it and there was no white halo surrounding my text. Here's what I did: highlight the <td> tag, in the field marked "Bg" put the path to your image. It will repeat. Open the cell to the width and height you need it. Type your text. Are you using css here? You can assign the text to a class and you shouldn't have a problem. Remember that until you actually can post your page live, you can't trust what you see in Dreamweaver's preview window.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Dantra,
I hope you are making progress.  I went through a similar transition that you did.  I didn't really use so much slicing, but here was my solution which seems to have been discussed a bit already.  Begin in Photoshop and edit your images how you want them, (probably with limited or no slicing, take them into fireworks and get them ready for the web.  I have found this to be an A+ solution on several different projects.  (I love what you can do in photoshop, and didn't want to lose that)
hope this helps, let us know how it turns out. Very Happy

thepixellator, horton Thanks for your concern but so far Danielle has been helping me out on this. Very Happy I am going to use those pages for a different part of the website. I have set up a contact page made in Dreamweaver MX 4 but it's giving me a error message. I tracked the message down to changing register global variable to on.

Does anyone know how to do this? Confused

Not sure exactly what you mean...We'd need to know what kind of script is driving your contact us page.

I knew that whatever her response was, I would not understand it myself. And I am sorry that it did not solve the issue. Possibly when they gets her regular site back up you can - knowing it was made with PS - learn more by digging in to it a bit.

PSD to HTML is the basic step in the development of a website in which a design is made functional for the web world. It is a conversion process which consists of coding and transforms a design file into a web page. In other words, it involves conversion of PSD to HTML/XHTML/CSS markup in accordance with the W3C standards.

In this context, you can trust our PSD to HTML/XHTML or PSD to CSS conversion service to get quality web pages from your submitted designs.

Apart from PSD to HTML/CSS service, we also provide integration with 3rd party application like WordPress, Magento, Movable type, Joomla, Drupal, X-cart, Zen cart and many more. Our code is 100% hand coded and w3c validated. Validated and optimized web pages also help rank the site higher on search engines and thus attract more traffic. Semantic XHTML/CSS coded pages load faster. We understand that to maximize the site's reach, it needs to perform well on all popular browsers on all operating systems. That is why we check our code on all major browsers including IE, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Chrome.
