Every now and again dreamweaver will timeout during a major file upload or a directory with a ton of files inside it.  I have contacted tech support multiple times, and although they do not support dreamweaver mx directly, they have been able to help me out.

I have all the settings correct to connect to my ftp. . .yet the problem persists.  The exact error message is: "waiting for server"

when I see this dialoge box I know that my connection is no more and I must resume my upload via another program.

It is getting to be quite a nuisance considering I have started uploading larger files.

Has anyone else had this problem?  Or possibly know how to fix it?

I have never had an issue of that nature. There has been a time where I was editing a page and lost connection, and I had to reconnect to upload the page.

I personally prefer to use dream weaver for creating my web pages, and using an ftp applications for uploading large files.

I know that lunarpages does not have a time out setting on there server as long as there is a constant stream of data...

How large of a file are you uploading when these time outs accrue?

Just saw this thread and thought I'd add my experiences.

I've had no problems up/downloading using FTP in DW to 5 different LP servers until the last couple of weeks.

Now I get lost connection messages all the time - to the point where I've just decided to give SmartFTP a try.

It's a shame because keeping the whole process within DW was very convenient.

Are the remote settings for the sites in dreamweaver set to passive mode?  That's important.

I work on sites on every Lunarpages server with DW and don't have issues.  I did set a short interval to keep the connection alive, since I know the ftp servers kick you off after a short time of inactivity.

I don't know if any of these things help, but I do have good success with it.

I have never used passive mode myself, but I know I will be back and forth from periods in which I will get "waiting for server" in the middle of a massive synchronize, and then I can go for periods at a time where it doesn't show up at all
