I've done a lot of reading and looked at a lot of demos of ecommerce sites. I've looked at all the freebies.

There is one that I've looked at that I really liked and wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with it. Although there is a one-time fee for $125, the price doesn't seem that bad for all the features and with less headaches with modification. What I like is the ease from the customers side and the Admin panel is easy to use but sophisticated. Has anyone had any experience with CS-Cart?Huh

FYI: Here are some links about carts & reviews
http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49000
(Hope no one thinks by me listing another forum, is in bad taste. The info on carts with links is really good, albeit a bit outdated.)

Good article about e-commerce mistakes.

If I had to pick a freebie, I've narrowed it down to these.
cubecart.com/site/home/
(Supposedly a html designed cart -- easier to customize)

softslate.com/
(A Java cart -- easier to customize)

creloaded.com
(Apparently, CRE Loaded & Zen-Cart are offshoots from osCommerce -- a review suggested that CRE is better.)

Hi,
I have not had any experience using carts.
But if none of the free ones which come with your hosting (look in fantastico under CPanel) suit then I would say 125$ is a good price.
You will hopefully be able to easily recoup that!

i haven't used any of the carts you mentioned, i would higly reccommend you try some of the Lunarpages/Fantastico carts that can be installed in less than a few minutes before you pay $125, i know it isn't a hell of a lot of money, but hey if the free ones work for you you could get another year at LP with the money ou save!

http://www.lunarforums.com/forum/index.php?topic=21525.0 - this is a link on using fantastico to install your carts, it's really easy and straight forward!

the carts available at the moment are:
        CubeCart
        OS Commerce
        Zen Cart

The reason why I started to look into other carts is that in my reading osCommerce has had some security issues. Also, OS & Zen are hard to modify to make the cart look integrated into the site and I wasn't impressed with their Admin features. The cart template is a real turn off for me. My biggest pet peeve is that I don't necessarily want to learn how to be a programmer to do this. CubeCart is certainly a consideration and I did see a site that used CubeCart that was completely integrated with the website. I don't know how hard it is to customize it though... I have downloaded the program and will need to play around with it. If CC doesn't work, then CS-Cart looks like it might by backup solution which is why I have inquired.  Razz

BTW, I found this great article on Alternative Cart Solution. Using MODASoultions has increased sales for sites substantially, where consumers normally wouldn't purchase online. In the near future, I think this will be the new trend for online shoppers.  Applause  See article and MODA's site links.

What I found to be helpful too was to look into whoever you are working with that provides your merchant services and they usually list a number of links to carts that work with their API.

I have used OsCommerce, I like it because it's FREE Smile but yes, it was certainly a pain to edit each php page to work it in to my site design.  I recently checked out ZenCart again and they are using a great template system now.  Their recent release was much more appealing than the OSCommerce.

Thanks for posting your findings here though, we appreciate you sharing your research.

On June28th, my bank is hosting a Merchant Acct breakfast or lunch presentation in how to increase sales. Last month when I met someone, they suggested that I check out Authorize.net because they have a contract with them. All the carts that I've looked at works with Authorize.net.

I'll also be sending the info about MODASolutions to get their take on it. The person that I've been working with at the bank has been working with merchant accounts for 7 yrs and is very knowledgeable.

Good luck to everyone.
