I've been thinking of purchasing a dedicated server, but at the moment I'm a little put off because I have little experience of running one. This is probably a silly question, but would it support seperate domain names? For example I'm thinking of running a CMS which I will write myself based on WordPress with some e-Commerce support for businesses on low budgets and I would like for them to assign their own domain name if they have one to a subdomain on the dedicated server. I'm not talking about the domain name registration company as I know already how to do that, but is there any other way?

In a general sense, yes I think what you are wanting to do is technically possible... basically they would need to have an entry added to their nameserver (for companyA.com) that points the subdomain.companyA.com to your server IP address. Then on your dedicated server, you would set it up so that requests for subdomain.companyA.com are directed to the proper folder...

Now, it being technically possible and allowed is another issue Smile I don't think there would be a problem given this would be a dedicated server, but since I don't work for LP can't say for sure...

And hopefully someone with a little more expertese will correct me if I'm wrong in thinking this can be done and how it would need to be setup...

Thanks GMTurner.

I've just had a look at their reseller plan and if it seems I can't do it with the dedicated plan then I'll have to join the reseller program, but would it be possible not to give the client access to Plesk or CPanel? As I stated previously I would like the client to use the CMS.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,
What you are wanting to do can be done with the dedicated plan. Webmin has an area for adding DNS records. The Cpanel add-on would make it easier to add additional domain names (and give the customer access to Cpanel).

I hope this helps.

Thanks RyanJ for your help.

What I'll do is take out a dedicated server plan when I've got the CMS ready and try it out.

Regards
