I have been getting this error message whenever anybody tries to checkout using Paypal from my Zen Cart store.
ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error (  -  (6) Couldn't resolve host 'api-3t.paypal.com' . I spoke with Paypal & they said
it is a server error. I am running 5 stores and all 5 stores give the same error message.

I am getting this too on my xcart. I called Lunar pages twice today and was told it wasn't a problem at their end. I then got a reply to my ticket saying "The resolver set on server was down. I have set it to us the open resolvers and now the host api.paypal.com is working fine. Please check it and let us know if you are still having trouble accessing it."

It still isn't working though and I haven't had a reply back. This is disappointing because usually the lunar pages support is amazing.

I am losing sales. I just sent out a mailing for a special on our site.

I have an ecommerce site on the Asteroid server that is giving me the "Couldn't resolve host 'api.paypal.com' (Error No. 6)" when I try to process a credit card or use the PayPal Express button. I talked to PayPal first and they stated it was an ISP issue. I called Lunarpages and they finally emailed me back after they closed for the day so I could not call back and the email said they tried to ping the API from 3 different source and didn't get a response so I should call PayPal back. So I called PayPal back and they have had no other records or mass issues concerning this problem so I believe the error is back on Lunarpages.

I sure hope you guys (Lunarpages Support team) fixes this quick as this is costing me sales on my site.  Help

This has just been resolved for me by Vivin Jacob - Junior System Administrator

I don't know who the two support guys were I spoke to on the phone (had to call from Australia) and I was on hold for ages only to be told it wasn't a server issue.

Our site is still down even though they again said it was fixed.

What did they do to fix it, do you know?

It's now 8am Pacific time, and it's almost 24 hours now since this problem started...  like the ones above I've been told it was a Paypal issue, but I can't see that being the case when both Griffin and Mahogany are getting the same issue.  Confused (and Paypal saying that nothing is wrong with their systems - and for the record you won't be able to ping their servers, they block the requests)

I too have the email saying it was resolved last night at 9:56p Pacific by 'Nitin Pager' (Admin I) ... only not to be.   I'm currently on the phone with 'Jesse'   Grr..!! (a level I) who just read the issue and said there's nothing he can do...   Really?!?  come on people - empower your techs with more than just a script.

Now awaiting either 'Harold' or 'Tony' - supposed managers in the center to call me back...  why can't one person take 'ownership' of the problem and run with it until resolution?!?

I've seen traffic and sales drop like a lead balloon... and I only have two Zen sites - I feel bad for the ones with 5 and 10 !

I'm sure that once they fix the resolv.conf file that it'll work for everyone...   or find the entry in the routing table that's been going in circles and delete it....

Good luck to us... as we enter Day 2 of being held hostage by Tech Support.  Stay Tuned!

Well said!

I had the same tech email me saying my site was working but come to find out it is not!

I asked the phone support tech to forward me to someone who does the work but he said they generally all work from home so there is no way to contact them, REALLY!

I find this lack of repair absurd and to keep getting emails in the middle of the night (USA time) saying the site is fixed and then to find out it is not is not cool.

Sure wish there was 24 hr phone support. Plus sites that are in dire need of a fix should have access to a real person rather than a ticket Queue.

By the way... nice site there Jerky.  I've been looking for a good PDF catalog but you're on OSC.  *chuckle*

And, naught for bashing here - but we've had close to 2 years of up-time with no issues...   so while yes, 24 hours of down-time is killing us (me) I suppose we're all still in that 99.9% uptime stat.

The more I read about the resolv.conf file - the more I think its the "San Diego switch issue" causing this - it's just getting to someone to tell this to.

About ready to call back - be the squeaky wheel and all, right?

If anything happens, I'll be back...

Well, 'Harold' was no help sans sending me to ' http://api-status.com/ ' - and again pointing the fate of the transactions back to being one of Paypal's...

Allegedly, even LP can't receive Paypal payments so they're not even getting customers right now.

Stand-by...

*gasp*  Surprised   Paypal actually admitted after 30 minutes of being transferred about to various tech people that there IS a problem with their host.   And, no - no time for when it's going to be fixed.

so, Sorry  Jesse, Harold, and the lot of you at LP.  Hug

Now then - time to install Google Checkout on these sites and get back to being fully operational !

Sorry LP as it was a PayPal issue all along. Usually they are quick to admit their errors but I think this issue didn't get found by the masses until hours after it started happening so I am assuming I was on the front end of this find.

PayPal is researching the issue and their technical team is sending me a supposed work around to give to Lunarpages but it will be whether or not it is quicker for Lunarpages to do this fix or wait for PayPal to resolve on their end. They basically want them to change the end point so now I have to call LP again.

From PayPal:

Thank you for contacting PayPal today.

As a reminder, please ask your web host support which endpoint they are sending the API call to. If it is not one of those listed here, updating it to the appropriate endpoint (depending on methods used) should correct the issue.

API Endpoints
https://cms.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=developer/howto_api_endpoints

Please let me know if they are able to make this change, and if possible, which endpoint they are currently using.

I spoke with a top level tech guy from Paypal. The first question he asked me when I told him my problem was if I was hosted with Lunarpages. He said they have identified the problem with Lunarpages & he spoke with somebody there with a fix. Here is the fix he said that LP needs to do to fix our accounts.....

Ask Lunarpages to route to a different endpoint of ours.
https://api-3t.paypal.com/nvp PayPal “live” production server for use with API signatures
https://api.paypal.com/nvp PayPal “live” production server for use with API certificates

Mine is still broken because when I called LP with this info, they are still blaming Paypal. Not sure what to do at this point. I have Paypal Express turned off in all 5 of my carts for now.
Customers will have to pay by cc until it is fixed.

OK... seeing the supposed 'fix' I went into the code - which by the way is hard-coded in your respective ecomm shops programming, not LP.

Made the change from the -3t to just the api. etc... and still nothing.  Then to check further - turned the modules to 'sandbox'  which uses a different set altogether.  Still failure.

So - we're back to square one.

I'm checking on the Zencart forums to see if anyone else is having an issue with their hosting verses Paypal - and armed with that, I'll be calling back or waiting.

I'll let you know.  Yikes

Good luck to all of us.
