Does anyone know if the SSL certificates you can buy through Lunarpages are compatable with google checkout? Apparantly google checkout is a bit picky about the type of certificate you can use and some are being rejected by the Sun/Java program at Google.

From what I understand it must be a Single root and not chained root certs in order to be accepted by google.

Also, does anyone know if its possible to use your server's shared certificate if the site you want it for is an addon domain?

Thanks in advance,
Ariana

Hi Ariana,

I believe it should be fine, however, you'll want to submit a ticket to us on the Certificates desk here: https://desk.lunarpages.com/newticket.php (select SSL from the dropdown)

In that ticket, include all technical specifications required for Google Checkout.  We can install single root certificates for you if you need.  the Chained vs Single Root is just a matter of one particular file that is appended, so the actual certificate should be fine, however, getting all specifications would be the deciding factor Smile

I hope this helps.

I don't think you would need an SSL certificate to use Google Checkout. I think that is one of the advantages of having a third party handle payments. To my knowledge, the payments are done on Google's site (not yours), so the security is not really an issue for you since it is handled by Google.

Check out https://checkout.google.com/support/sell/bin/answer.py?answer=43863&query=SSL&topic=&type= for some more details. It seems like it depends on how fancy you much you want to use the system.

Thanks Jay, I submitted a ticket yesterday and am still waiting to hear if your certificate authority is on google's "trusted" list. (I sent a link to the list last night but have yet to hear back from support.)

Douglas, I am using a shopping cart that uses level 2 integration, for which you do indeed need SSL. Thanks!

call it an ecommerce newbie question but, I am planning to sign up for windows shared hosting, and I note that it does not include a shared SSL cert, is this needed for an ecommerce site, or only if you directly take credit cards, etc. any help would be appreciated. John

Hello:
An SSL certificate will be needed if you will be taking any kind of payment information directly.

Correct, however you may scare customers away if they don't see an SSL connection on the store itself.

ok thanks, now I have to look at the differences between basic hosting, or windows hosting, or adding the SSL cert to windows. I like the windows system.
