Hi all-

I've been trying to install Virtuemart but am having some trouble...

I'll keep trying,  but in the meantime, figured I'd ask if anyone can recommend any other solutions which would work well for catalog management. I need the ability to set up the system to show products without pricing. We may add some pricing for special items, but mostly, it's just a reference catalog.

Any help appreciated-

thanks,
Andrew

If Virtuemart doesn't have a "don't display price" function built in, I'm sure it could be easily handled with a little coding. Most shopping carts have a function to format the price according to your given currency rules, and either write out the formatted price themselves, or return the formatted price string. Just find that function and have it write nothing or return an empty string (return '';). I'm not familiar with Virtuemart, but it's probably written in PHP or Perl, which you would have access to edit.

If you want some prices to show up, you'd have to have some additional code to check for certain product numbers or categories (if there are just a few, and they don't change often), or add some new flag to the database (good for frequent changes, but a lot more work to set up).

You may also want to disable the checkout function, if no one is actually buying anything from this catalog.

Hi -

I think it does, but have been not been able to install it successfully (yet). I emailed the developer but haven't heard back.

Thanks,
A.
