I would like to get your advice and input on a new website.  A friend runs a small medical clinic and would like to set up a website that excepts credit card payments for drug screenings & drug testing packages.

What hosting plan would you all recommend to accommodate this request? There probably would not be a tremendous amount of volume but there will be some.

In addition, how would the office be able to verify that a customer has paid on-line?  Do they need to setup a DB or can a service like Paypal work as a solution?  It is my hope that there is system that fires off an email that includes the customer's information when they make a purchase.  I am helping out as a favor but do not have a lot of experience with ecommerce and the logistics or legalities of it.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

not really a helpful response, but keep in mind that he will likely need to deal with all the HIPPA requirements as well... I'm sure he's probably more familiar with them than I am, but something to keep in mind...

On one level, a basic plan "could" work, but might need some additional add-ons like a dedicated IP and SSL... on another hand, a VPS or dedicated system might be needed to keep it from being in the shared environment to help protect privacy... so in addition to technical requirements, you'll need to look into some of the legal requirements as well because of the medical aspect...

Thank you for your reply.  I will have to follow up to see if the drug testing kits are regulated under the HIPPA guidelines.  That is something I did not think of  Head Bashin

Any other opinions would be appreciated.

Your first post mentioned medical clinic, so I wasn't sure... if it's drug testing kits though, HIPPA might not play as big a role... though results of the tests might fall under it... again, something I'm not that familiar with but something that came to mind... these days I'd want to cover even the remote possibilities by checking with someone rather than taking a risk with it... I mean, better to spend a little time to hear that it isn't an issue than to find out it is further down the road in a courtroom...
