I'm with you; I'd love to see some reviews/comparisons of the Free to inexpensive E-commerce/Cart software out there.
I have to agree that OSCommerce has a STEEP learning curve.
Yes, it's FREE, but is it really? what's your time worth to you?

Oh, and be careful about installing lots of Fantastico scripts, as I just found malicious script in my index page which was inserted somehow.
Support told me that someone may have gained access through one of the scripts I installed; blog, CMS, etc.
I'm pretty freaked-out about trying to do E-Commerce myself whilst protecting customer info, as well as my own!
I figure I have six months of research to do before I consider asking someone for their credit card.
