I have several email accounts in order to segregate the source of email harvesters.

This means that my email client (Thunderbird) opens several POP3 connections, I think in parallel. As of 1/13/2010 I have noticed that not all of the email is automatically downloaded. If I manually walk through each account one at a time I get all the email.

If Lunarpages is throttling POP3 connections as a security measure it is not going to fly.

What about an office where there are a lot of users behind NAT? They could have dozens of users from one IP trying to connect.

You might contact support to see if there have been any specific changes to your account, however there haven't been any wide spread changes.  In most cases it is better to limit the connections, due to the idea of everybody getting their chance to get the content in question, in this situation it would be mail.

I just opened a ticket for another issue on incoming (delivery to a Lunarpages hosted email account) SMTP rate limiting. As usual, it is taking a lot of repeating that I am talking about rate and not simultaneous connections in that ticket. However I did get a non-responsive post of the following:

++++++++++++++

15  Maximum SMTP Connections Per IP
100 Maximum IMAP Connections
15 Maximum IMAP Connections Per IP
15 Maximum TLS/SSL IMAP Connections Per IP
50 Maximum POP3 Connections (Total)
5 Maximum POP3 Connections Per IP
5 Maximum TLS/SSL POP3 Connections Per IP
Number of Authentication Daemons 5

Please understand that on shared server, the configuration can not be customized.

++++++++++++++

This response doesn't answer the ticket but it does shed some information on this topic.

As I said before, if you take an example office of say 20-30 users behind a NAT router the odds of simultaneous connections on that one IP makes the 5 POP3 limit seem low.

I would recommend that the wiki page at http://wiki.lunarpages.com/E-mail_Sending_Limits be renamed to E-mail_Limits, the above be included and kept current.
