Is there a way to completely backup my IMAP account. I mean all the messages, attachments, and in thier respective folders. I know how to do a full backup of my account but i need just the IMAP becuase i have an IMAP account at another service i would like to do this as well.

I do not know what types of programs will do this; windows, mac, linux, php/server ran? Any help would be helpful (repition not intended)

Probably the easiest thing is just to download it ALL via POP onto your system (making sure you enable "do not delete messages from server).

folders..no

you may be ablet to force an IMAP application to save a cached copy of the message locally though.

One option I think you have is, to synchronize all the folders, instead of just the inbox. This will download all messages to your local machine and allow you to watch them offline. In Outlook express, you can just create a local folder and move all your imap messages in there. Then just save all the folders (located at (XP):
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{565F0445-C935-4C42-9847-F0FDAB2634F5}\Microsoft\Outlook Express)

Your identity number is, of course, different. You can import these folders at any time into outlook express and I have successfully used this method many times and it works great.

I do have them all syncronised, and i know how to get to those files. How do i restore them? Just replace the new onces with the saved? Will OE know it was from IMAP? What if i didn't use OE? Sorry to ask so many questions

Hello Guys,

I am one of the development team member and would like to share a simple solution for Gmail backup or IMAP backup, Use Beyond Inbox http://www.beyondinbox.com/ , which lets you keep your email organized and inbox clean so that you can find a message when you need it. At the same time, you also need to make sure that you archive and backup your email to prevent the loss in situations like accidental loss of data from email servers, hacking of account, forget password, over size inbox or unpredictable scenarios.

There are five basic functions that we all need to perform in order to manage and safeguard our email- backup, restore, archive, transfer email to another IMAP account and organize the data. Beyond Inbox can help you perform all of these in a very efficient and easy way.
Using Beyond Inbox, you can backup, restore, archive, transfer or organize email from any IMAP enabled email account.

It makes a single file(.eml) for each downloaded mail, so that you can see the relevent mail through any other email Client application like MS Outlook, Thunderbird etc.

Beyond Inbox is available in two different flavors i.e. an easy User Interface using which you use all its feature like backup ,restore, copy and move and Command line interface using which you can schedule the task of gmail backup or IMAP backup .

You can use this tool on Windows, Linux as well as Mac OSX. Click here to download http://www.beyondinbox.com/beyondinbox-download.html
