I have set my iphone 3g to remove emails after 7 days but it doesn't seem to. Using pop3.  All else seems good.  Any ideas?

Also, how can I manually delete a zillion old emails via webmail or otherwise?

Thanks

Peter

Sorry to hear your having problems.  I am far from being an iPhone expert, however troubleshooting it as a general mail client issue - you might check your settings for the e-mail setup to see if you have selected to "delete from server" or not. I know some mail clients (when setting them up) have it to "never" remove mail from the server as the default.  Might be one place to check.

Found this after doing some random surfing around about the problem too:

Hope that helps!

Hi Peter, I am assuming you are using IMAP on the iPhone.. seems to be logical since depending rather they have added an ability to store email on the iPhone. I used my Blackberry for a long time on my account. And the issue with using any phone for email, is not always is the application on the iPhone going to delete and purge the emails. You have to understand that when deleting email from the phone you should have an option to delete from phone and server.

I would suggest contacting support in regards to this, it may be the apple application itself doing it since mac and apple both use different processes than what is on other smart phones. If, you request a mass deletion, then I would advise that they will delete all email but support does not have the ability to just pick and choose email to remove. So, I would check the application to make that it is deleting and purging email off the server from the phone.
