Since this is the 3rd time I'm permanently losing email since I joined you back on Sept 18, 03 (one time for over 15hrs -  the other for other 9hrs) I have a question

What do I have to do to have working email?  What's the secret?

and yes I have a support  ticket open for this problem

So I get my first reply from tech and...

They want to blame the problem on me.

I wake up with no email AGAIN & somehow it's my fault.

If there's anyone there at Lunarpages reading this would you please have someone fix this problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although I am not LP staff member I will attempt to help you fightlikeapes, if I can. Do you receive any error messages? What email client are you using? Have you made any changes to your email settings within CPanel or webmail settings? Also, you mention this is the 3rd time....What was the fix on the other incidents? I can try to send you a test message and so forth.

Thanks for helping. This is not a email client problem but a problem at Lunarpages.

as for error messages yes I have them from Roadrunner, AOL & Hotmail.

here's an example:
----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
<testing@fightlikeapes.com>

----- Transcript of session follows -----
... while talking to fightlikeapes.com.:
>>> RCPT To:<testing@fightlikeapes.com>
<<< 550-imo-r03.mx.aol.com [152.163.225.99] is currently not permitted to relay
<<< 550-through this server. Perhaps you have not logged into the pop/imap server
<<< 550-in the last 30 minutes or do not have SMTP Authentication turned on in your
<<< 550 email client.
550 <testing@fightlikeapes.com>... User unknown

as for how they fixed it before - I don't know

It may be worth a shot to take another look at your email client(s) settings (as below in image) and rule it out as the problem. I had a similar problem with one of my accounts and this solved it from within my email client.

Additionally, if AOL is being used to send out email, you won't be able to send out emails from your account.  I had AOL until a few months ago, and they don't allow outgoing SMTP from any server other than their own.

If the ISP being used isn't AOL (since you mention RoadRunner as well), they could have the same requirement.  The fix for all ISPs other than AOL would be to simply change the outgoing SMTP server to the ISP's to check it.  If it works, then it was the ISP blocking the SMTP server connection.  Unfortunately, for AOL, there is no solution because they won't provide their outgoing SMTP server (that they claim doesn't exist) to customers.

If the problem is with sending and receiving mail, however, then it could definitely be attributable to a firewall or even something on the server.  In the email that you sent to support, include authorization for us to test one of your accounts and provide the password to that account (you can change it before you send it, then change it back once we check into the problem).

I apologize that you are having this happen, since I know it can be frustrating, but we try to help as much as we can when we are given detailed information on what is occurring.

I hope this helps, and thanks DaveW for assisting as well.

Addendum: Please note that when I used AOL I was intermittently permitted to relay SMTP messages through their servers.  When this happened, it appeared to be only when I was replying to sender.  Basically, any new messages I attempted to send were rejected by the AOL outgoing server, while any messages that originated from someone else where I replied to them with a message the AOL server would allow to pass through.  I don't understand why this occurred, but thought I would likewise note it for future reference.

I just did a little checking and his problem is that fightlikeapes.com has its MX set to hydra, but hydra thinks that the domain is not local and is therefore trying to relay it.  Since the IP sending the e-mail has not authenticated itself, relaying will not be allowed.

Seems Hydra needs to be configured to believe fightlikeapes.com is local.

Here is a solution which I had once which caused the "appearance" for my email to look like it was being relayed, and my solution.

I was using Pegusus Mail email client which has many possible ways of being configured but for my "one time" problem that made my email look like it was being forwared was not my email client Pegasus Mail.

Turned out it was my settings for dialup connection. My dialup service provided both the dialup service plus a basic email (common for dialup service package). What was not common for them compared to my prior dialup service of times before, was that they said to specify primary and secondary IP numbers for my dialup service usage with them, so I did. Bingo!... that (without my knowledge) made my email through my domain at Lunarpages look like it was being relayed.

To correct the "erroneous" relay error.... I simply went to my dialup connection (had a few different ones with alternative phone numbers) and "corrected" each one myself.

Check your dialup connection at My Computer, Dial-Up Networking, right click on your dialup service that you use, select Properties,  then Server Types, TCP/IP Settings. In that window if "Specify name server addresses" is selected with IP numbers having been entered change it to "Server assigned name server adddresses" (the old specified IP numbers, if they "had been" specified will then be grayed out), then select OK and exit from all that. Be sure to do same to any other dialup connections that you might use.

When I did that change to "Server assigned..." it corrected the problem for where my email appeared to be relayed. Note:.... "most" dialup service says to have that set as "Server assigned...." but some ISP's might say to specify the IP numbers.... that could be needed for using "their" email service, but the "Server assigned name server" (automatic) mode "should" work fine with their email too. Definitely that was a cause for trouble with email at my domain at Lunarpages.

One I had encountered that "relay" problem I soon realized that my diallup service was not "normal" compared to prior dialup service that I had, so I simply made that easy change and it corrected the problem that caused my email to look like it was being relayed.

Hope this helps. Most definitely DO CHECK the dialup networking settings for TCP/IP that it shows as "Server assigned....." and that any IP numbers if specified are grayed out.

Regards,

(PS.... I am not a Lunarpages tech.... just another Happy User at Lunarpages.)
