Hello,

If you want to get into Google or any other search engine, please look at the sticky thread in the Search Engine forum. It lists all the URLs of search engines that you can go to and submit your website to. I suggest you do it manualy, and not use some program that promises 100 submissions at once. Just add your site on your own to Google and Yahoo, and any other you might want. To get a ranked first is not easy. It can take months, even years to get that spot. What you should focus on is links, try to get as many sites to link to you as you can. That will help your page rank with Google, which will cause Google to visit your site more and update it.

Ask us a bit more specific questions and we will be able to give you more help. Also, feel free to look through the Search Engine forum and read some threads. There is a lot of useful information that can be learned. Good luck! Smile

Also, providing good solid content in textual form is a big plus.

I don't know how anyone else feels about this, but getting on the first page of Google (or Yahoo, MSN etc) is the most important, not necessarily focusing on actually being number 1 (or even 2 or 3).  Depending on the type of competition for the certain terms/phrases, I find it can be almost impossible to compete (especially with small business budgets etc).  The same can go for bidding on terms as well...

As far as getting the best links:
When you look at the results of searches for keyword phrases and terms you would like to get - enter the backword link into Google (or SE's like AltaVista & Alltheweb - "link:www.widgets.com") to see what sites link to them, and attempt to establish link relationships with those sites (and related material) as well.

Also - remember that Yahoo pulls from Google results - so focus on the Google results.  Hope this helps - I have had some good success with these strategies - hope you do to!

Also, to get more links try a search with Google. Type in keyword "add URL" or keyword "submit". For example, if your site is about soccer use soccer "add URL" and you should be able to find a lot of place that will allow you to submit your site for free. Smile
