Howdy folks.

I try to select type 'I' counter in CGI/Counter section but when I cut and paste the code, all's I get is the default type 'A' one. The preview button, however, shows it correctly. Also, when I do a counter reset it shows that it has been reset to zero, but it never takes effect and the counters just keeps merrily advancing.

It's not a cache problem because I've cleared the cache, used different machines, and created brand new counters that did the same thing. Seaching the lists, it seems that no one has run into these problems. Any ideas? I could just delete and re-create them to get them to reset but I wonder if I'm missing something Confused

Hey - would you be able to post a link to your site so we could take a look at it?

Thanks!

I'm seeing 34 as the current counter setting. Is this a value that has been reset and accumulated or is it too high?

You may want to try using cpanel's filemanager or ftp to actually delete the page, and then completely republish the entire site.

That has worked for me in the past.

The count is correct, as far as that goes, but I have tried to reset to zero which it won't do.

I have deleted and re-installed the page to no effect. It just keeps counting right where it left off.

I created a new page at http://pyropalooza.com with a new counter and it does the same thing - won't zero and counter is type 'A' when the code tells it to be type 'I'.

The counter type being incorrect is something I could live with but it sure would be nice to be able to reset the count. Crying or Very sad

I"m not sure where the setting is, but there is an option to reupload all data instead of just changed data. That may fix the problem for you.

A simple workaround for this would be to create an entirely new counter for the page (with a new name etc), which would then by default start at 0.

P.S. I'm goign to move this into the FrontPage area of the forums. Hopefully the experts in there will be able to give you a more official answer.

Hi,

The count is contained in a text file with an extension .cnt, which is located within the _private folder (on the server).

You can open the site live on the server (File... Open Site... web address http://yourdomain.com), locate the cnt file and edit it with Notepad.

Hmmm...I don't seem to have a _private folder or any file with a .cnt extension using either the built in File Manager or SmartFTP.

It appears your page was created with FrontPage Express, which I believe was included with Windows 98. The data for the counter may be in a file named /cgi-sys/bianco2.dat. Deleting the counter from the page AND erasing the file bianco2.dat may reset the counter. This file is kept on the server so you may need to FTP to the site to delete the file or use the FTP manager in the control panel.
