Are Expression Web 2 and 3 really buggy for anyone else?

Often, after writing a line, for instance, I'll hit Enter, and the next line will start off with different formatting (as in NO formatting). Other times, I won't be able to change the color of a hyperlink, unless I completely rewrite it, carefully borrowing the formatting from another hyperlink.  (these kinds of bug are a MESS that affect all kinds of similar actions, at least on my end. Text editing/formatting, at least when using the GUI tools, just seems broken to little pieces, and has been so for me since Expression Web 1)

Hello,

I don't think it's so much that Expression Web is buggy but rather maybe a better understanding is needed as to how to code web pages. For example, possibly explore how to use cascading style sheets (CSS) to set the formatting for the text in various page elements so that you don't need to apply formatting on the page. And how to set the formatting (color, underline, etc.) for all of the hyperlinks at once. You can also have various "classes" of hyperlinks so that all of the hyperlinks of a "class" look the same. So the suggestion is to start doing more with CSS to set your various styles.

Hope this helps.

Well, what I'm saying above applies entirely to the regular GUI tools. (as in, just editing text like in a word processor) I don't code, so I'm wondering if the GUI tools are really buggy for anyone else.

It's not that the GUI tools are buggy, but rather the GUI tools by themselves are not sufficient to make a quality web page. The GUI tools are not the equivalent of a word processor, which by itself can produce a quality document without looking at the formatting tags.

In my view it's unrealistic to expect that you can make a quality web site or even a web page using only a GUI tool (from whatever vendor). The GUI tools are aids to get started. But while you probably don't need to be "a coder" it is very helpful to have enough of an understanding of HTML to take a peek at the code view and see the formatting tags. By glancing at the tags it's usually evident right away what's happening.

If a person is adamant about not wanting to look at some HTML tags, a different tool such as one of the on-line web builders may be a better choice.

Hope this helps.

I understand your POV, but what about just having GUI tools that work? Wink They have plenty of power (my site has pretty much everything I need, and I used bare-minimal coding)... it's just that they're buggy as can be, and it seems that every version of Expression Web has these same issues. (haven't tried 4 yet, though)
