I've been trying to publish my new site through FP 2000 with extensions active and many, but not all of the page slices and images are gone (a lot of "x"'s on the site).  I removed extensions and tried using WS-FTP (without deleting the site uploaded with FP) and get the same thing.

The site looks great in "preview" mode in FP. Any idea what's going on?  Should I delete the whole site and try again using WS-FTP?

I transferred from my old host because after 3 years I could never get FP to publish to the site and the host always repsonded "FP is a pain just learn to FTP".

Thanks in advance for anyones help.

Hi and sorry to hear of your frustrations.

If images are not showing it is usually because they

1) were not uploaded to the web host, or 2) are not being referenced by the correct address.

File names and folder names are case sensitive on Lunarpages, so the reference to the file must match the file name exactly, including the case. MyPic.jpg is not the same as mypic.jpg. Many people use all lowercase file names to avoid confusion.

You'll get the best publishing results by enabling the FrontPage server extensions and using FrontPage HTTP publishing. Select the File menu and choose Publish Web. Publish to web address http://yourdomain.com (substitute your domain name.)

If you do get the extensions working, from then on do not use FTP to transfer your files because it tends to confuse or corrupt the server extensions.

One last observation... if you plan to use FrontPage for your site, you will get a lot of benefit by upgrading to FrontPage 2003. There have been a lot of improvements and bug fixes since FrontPage 2000.

Hi corals2

Looking at your site, I see the problem of missing images is a case of.........Case
The LunarPages servers are case sensitive for file naming.

An example http://www.coralscience.com/images/Slices/CSweb_01_topbanner.gif is looking for the image in 'Slices' folder, but the folder is called 'slices'. Confused
So the real path is http://www.coralscience.com/images/slices/CSweb_01_topbanner.gif

Its a good ( and recommended) idea to name all folders and files all in lowercase, then path and file naming doesnt become a problem  Thumbs Up
In this case as your a bit further down the line you might find renaming the folder Slices will sort out all the images ( If frontpage has pathed them ALL to Slices)  Wink

You should not upload a FrontPage site using an FTP program as it can cause major screwups with the FP Extensions.  Stick to Publishing or Open Web online with FrontPage, for the FP elements.

FTP doesn't always mess things up, but all too often it does  Thumbs Up

Thanks everyone for the very helpful advice.

The problem does in fact seem to be a case issue.  Does anyone know how to keep FP from changing the case?  My folder is named /slice/'..., and as you know, all one does to insert an image into a page (from /image/...) is to use "insert".  Therfore I'm not changing the name to "/Slice/..., FP is.  How does this happen? better yet, how to stop it.  I tried to keep everything lowercase.  I had this problem on my last host only then entire folder and file names became uppercase.  It was very frustrating.

Thanks again,

Larry

Hi,

I've never heard of FrontPage changing the case but then again I'm always learning something!

It sometimes helps to rename a file or folder to something different then back to what you want. For example...

Rename Slice to slice1.
Then rename slice1 to slice.
