If the FrontPage server extensions are not working, it may help to uninstall them and reinstall them in the LunarPages control panel. But sometimes even uninstalling and reinstalling the extensions does not help. This is because uninstalling may not really remove all of the FrontPage files before reinstalling them.

If a simple reinstall of the server extensions does not help, a complete cleanout and reinstall may do the job. Be aware that after a complete cleanout you'll need to transfer all of the files back up to the web site.

* In the LunarPages control panel, uninstall the FrontPage extensions.

* In the LunarPages control panel File Manager or in another FTP program, delete *everything* from the web folder. On LunarPages the web folder is named public_html. Don't delete anything outside of the public_html folder and don't delete the public_html folder itself.

* In the LunarPages control panel, reinstall the FrontPage extensions.

* In FrontPage, determine whether the extensions are working by trying to open the site live. Select the File menu and choose Open Site... and use web address http://yourdomain.com (substitute your domain name, don't use www). If the extensions are working it will ask for your FrontPage administrator username and password.

* If the extensions are working, close the site live and open the site from your hard drive as usual. Publish your site using FrontPage HTTP publishing.

If the extensions are still not working, you'll need to transfer the files back to the public_html folder on the server using FTP.

Cautions:

* If you have modified the .htaccess file, be sure to save a copy for reference later.

* Don't delete things in the public_html folder that you may want to keep, such as databases.

* Make sure you have all of the source files on your computer so you can republish.

You should only install the FrontPage server extensions if you are going to use FrontPage to create your web site.

If you are going to use FrontPage to create your site, the FrontPage server extensions make it easier to transfer your pages to the web site and they enable some of the special FrontPage features.

If you uninstall the FrontPage server extensions, it disables the FrontPage features that depend on the extensions, but it does not delete your web site pages.

Only if you plan using frontpage components or publishing from frontpage.

I don't understand this statment:

Does this mean that if I want to reinstall Frontpage extensions, I have to completely wipe out my website and start over.  I will be looking for a new web host if that is the case.

No it doesn't mean that. You would only want to do a complete cleanout if reinstalling the extensions didn't cure the problem.

I can say that LunarPages has far fewer problems with FrontPage than the several other hosts I've been on.
