If you have edited your web site pages locally to eliminate the features requiring the FrontPage extensions, here's how to get a clean start on the server.
* Tell FrontPage that you are not using features needing the extensions by selecting the Tools menu and choosing Page Options... Authoring tab. In the top section for FrontPage and Sharepoint technologies, select "None" from the dropdown list. Changing this setting will disable FrontPage menu entries for features requiring the extensions.
* In cPanel, uninstall the FrontPage extensions then Cleanup Old Extensions.
* To get a clean start, use Windows Explorer FTP, cPanel File Manager, or another FTP program to delete all of the files and folders inside the public_html folder. Do not delete the public_html folder itself.
* Optional but recommended, in cPanel FTP accounts, create a new FTP account with access to the public_html folder. Do this by leaving the box for "directory" blank. Using this FTP account for FTP publishing will ensure that files go into the public_html folder.
* Back in FrontPage, select the File menu and choose Publish Site. Select the FTP option and publish to your web site FTP address,
http://ftp://ftp.domain.com. Use the newly-created FTP username and password. Note that the username will be of the form "
user@domain.com".
If you are still using FrontPage for your editor, FrontPage FTP publishing is the preferable publishing method because FrontPage will still keep track of which files need to be published and will send the files to the correct folders. The same is true if you switch to the new Expression Web.
