Hello,

I've had a shuffle through and can't find the answer.
FrontPage Extensions are installed.
I've used FP to manage another site elsewhere; every now and then I get the 'can not connect' dialog but it eventually resolves.
I want to publish my new site NOW!  Confused

I'm doing the regular FP 'publish' option. I've removed the www from the domain (ie: http://mydomain.com). I get the 'does not appear to have Windows SharePoint Services installed" message.

I have read http://www.lunarforums.com/frontpage_assistance/sharepoint_error-t21283.0.html and where I previously saw the Lunarpages placeholder page, I now get 403 Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) Server at mydomain.com Port 80 (when I look at the remote site)

I've done an install/uninstall/install on the FP extensions via the LPCP. I've done the 'open in IE & select 'edit with FP' and I didn't get any dialog box or request for password.
I've read http://www.lunarforums.com/frontpage_assistance/very_frustrated_trying_to_uplod_new_site-t53591.0.html which concluded with a missing folder. I can't be missing anything yet!

So, ok, I am giving up for the night but would love to solve this first thing. What else can you suggest for me please?

oh, hi & welcome to lunarpages Smile

edit: just went ahead and tried via the ftp method. The files are up, but I get the 403 Forbidden when I enter the domain in a browser on the interwebs. Now I'm puzzled.

Hello,

If you do not get a password prompt , the FP extensions are not working. A more complete cleanout and reinstall often helps.

This is the usual drill for a complete cleanout...

* In cPanel, click to uninstall the FrontPage extensions. When it finishes, click to cleanup old extensions.

* In cPanel File Manager, delete all files and folders INSIDE the public_html folder. Do not delete the public_html folder itself.

* In cPanel, reinstall the FrontPage extensions.

* In FrontPage, publish your new site to http://yourdomain.com (substitute your domain name.)

Caution: if you choose to do a complete cleanout of the server, please be sure you have the source files for your web site on your computer so you can re-publish.

Tip: If you are using the extensions, don't do the things in cPanel that cause a re-write of the FrontPage .htaccess file. This would include applying hotlink protection.

Well shoot. I think I did do something to the .htaccess file. Like disappeared it.
I'll have to wait for an answer from Support I guess, and see if it can be restored.

I got excited that I was on to the answer there, Rick_E.

When you reinstall the FrontPage extensions, a fresh FrontPage .htaccess file will be created for you automatically.

Note that you will not see the .htaccess file in FrontPage. You can use the cPanel file manager to see it on the server.

Control Panel tells me the extensions are installed. When I click 'full install' (or even if I don't) I get the following message:
Starting fulluninstall, port: 80.

Error: There is no web named "".
The version (unknown) of the server extensions you are trying to uninstall cannot be uninstalled with this tool. You must upgrade this virtual server to the current version, and then use owsadm.exe to uninstall.

I dont' see the .htaccess file in the cPanel file manager.

Did you do the steps I gave you in my previous message?

Yes, Rick, I apologize for editing my excited message..

I did the steps you posted and thought I had victory. I first wrote:
Thanks very much for the additional instruction. I don't know which thing is responsible, but the dialog sign in box came up immediately today.

One note for future folk: in the LPCP control panel (I'm having the feeling there are two different control panels available?) there is no additional step to 'clean up old extensions'. There is however, a choice to do a 'Full Uninstall' which I probably did not tick the box for yesterday.
I also messed up the ftp upload but I don't think that was the culprit.

But after looking, I realized that FP had auto opened to the ftp (darn me for trying that!) and the sign in box that came up was for that, not for my http sign on (regular FP publishing).

When I switch the publishing type to http, I get the same message.

Support indicates that they can install the extensions for me, after I've confirmed my account ownership.

edit: oh dear, looks like Support have kicked me up to "server admin staff for review".

Well, it remains a mystery exactly how I broke that, but Support has installed my FP extensions and I successfully published today.

Rick_E, thank you SO much; your posts here and elsewhere on the forum are so helpful. I do something like this on another board and now I know why my readers get so grateful when I can put the ray of sunshine on their problem.

Thanks for posting and I expect I'll 'see' you again! Smile
(like, getting wordpress properly installed, but that will be for tomorrow)

Thank you again for the attention and patience.

You might have removed .htaccess or any of the folders that begin with _vti which are the folders for Frontpage Extensions. Reinstalling the FP extensions re-creates all the needed folders and lets you publish again  Very Happy
