Hello

re: safete.com and the add-on domains like safety-speaker.com unable to log in or publish via FrontPage.

Please dont' tell me to reinstall extensions, did that three times over the weekend.

Today, they are not working again.

Quite frustrating.  Help desk just gives canned answers to reinstall extensions.

any ideas from the forum?

Hello,

Not knowing what you have done, I'll offer a few tips that may or may not help you.

When you create an add-on domain, it creates a sub-domain with that name on the server, usually in the /safety-speaker folder. This folder is no longer part of the original FrontPage web site.

You now need to create a new FrontPage web site on the server by using the FrontPage icon in cPanel to install a second set of FrontPage extensions, this time in the sub-domain folder.

In FrontPage, the safety-speaker files should be in a separate FrontPage web.

Once you have done this you should be able to publish to http://safety-speaker.com.

Thanks Rick

But the situation is that one can't log in with FrontPage or publish from my hard drive even to the parent site safete.com.

Meaning somewhere Lunarpages does not have the login working properly and it keeps popping up with a login window.

Which leads to another problem, the server then rejects my IP of my computer due to many log in attempts.  Kinda Catch-22.

Well needless to say, it is over 4 hours and I"m pulling my account with LunarPages.  Too bad, would have been more websites, but not now.  Even their help line phone number isn't toll free and I spent 10minutes on hold and gave up.  Who pays for that?

They must be having serious issues and aren't saying anything.

If you are having issues with frontpage extensions, generally the only way to fix them is to reinstall the extensions, and as you mention you have contacted support, you should have been sent a series of steps, that must be followed exactly as shown to properly clear out the extensions and then reinstall.

If the steps outlined dont work, reply to the message that you were sent with your security information, and your ticket can be escalated to be further reviewed as the old extensions may need a manual removal.

If your frontpage extensions are constantly breaking, you may need to investigate what may be causing the breakage, with the followng being the most common reasons I have seen "breaks" frontpage extensions:

Using regular FTP to access the account.
Making manual edits to your .htaccess file.
Switching between php4/5 (if on a server that allows this).

As I mentioned, many people consider frontpage extensions to be "unstable", and this is something that affects all hosts.

From research I have done online, even Microsoft techs may consider them to be unstable (although noone from microsoft will admit this), to the point that they have replaced Frontpage wtih "Microsoft Expression Web" which is able to create standards compliant websites without using the FP extensions.

Frontpage 2003 came out in October of 2003, and was replaced November, 2006 by Expression Web Designer 2007.

I generally recommend, if possible, upgrade to Expression Web 2 , which was released April 2008, as using older frontpage software, may eventually lead to being non-compatible with the technology used for servers at some point in the future, and could result in eventual breakage of websites.  By upgrading and redoing sites in the newer software, you may get a longer "lifetime" for the code you are using for the site.

Thanks Troy, but unfortunately this is a server issue and not a customer issue.   Meaning for some reason initially my account was set at something other than 755 and LP had to change that.  Then later on LP on FrontPage couldn't take my logins or publishing, the server blocked my personal IP and they had to unblock that.

So after 2 days still no resolve, and today after ticket was created 12 hours later I get a response.  I still can't log in and so I've pulled the account and gone to LP's competition, which by the way as of writing this is running smoothly.

Sad.  I use two other host providers and both using FP without the problem I've experienced here, so not sure about the reference to all hosts.

Likewise the inference about FP being out in 2003, well then that must mean Windows XP is not supported too as it came out in 2001.  However I do appreciate your feedback and have looked at Expression web when it first came out and threw it in the garbage.  I might give version 3 another look.

Consider asking support to "reset" your account back to the original server condition so you can get a fresh start.
