Somehow I was able to publish from FP 2003 to the LP server but afterward, I can't open the site with FP2003. I keep getting "Windows Sharepoint Service not installed" error.  I don't think I used any sharepoint components.  What's wrong ? Help

Thanks.

Since I don't use FrontPage I can't say for sure, but I can guarantee that LP does not have sharepoint services installed since the servers are running linux. My guess is there is an option somewhere in FP that needs to be turned off. If someone doesn't offer a solution, you might find this helpful... then again, maybe not so helpful...

I appear to be having the same problem. In frontpage 2003 I have been successfully publishing my site using the frontpage extensions and sharepoint option. This worked perfectly about a month ago - but now I find I get an error message reading 'sharepopint services not installed'

As I understand it's not advised to upload using ftp with fp extensions installed and webdav brings up similar error messages. Has there been a change to the servers in this time, and is there anyway to overcome the problem?

Thanks

Yes, the Linux servers here at Lunarpages do not have the full "Sharepoint Services", however FrontPage 2003 may use the term Sharepoint Services when referring to the FrontPage 2002 server extensions, which we do have.

Your error message appears to mean that the FrontPage server extensions either are not installed or need to be uninstalled and reinstalled. In another post, I'll copy some tips on how to tell if the FrontPage server extensions are working.

The message could also mean that you were attempting to publish to the wrong web address.

When publishing, be sure to select the File menu and choose Publish Site. Choose the Sharepoint Services option and publish to web address http://yourdomain.com.

Microsoft Knowledgebase article 828909 describes several methods for determining whether the FrontPage server extensions are installed and functioning correctly. This article can be found at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;828909&Product=fp2003.

The methods include

* Open the Web site in Internet Explorer. On the File menu, click Edit with Microsoft FrontPage. If FrontPage opens a read-only copy of the current Web page without prompting you for the user name and password, the FrontPage Server Extensions probably *are not* working correctly .

* Use the "What's that site running?" feature at http://www.netcraft.com

* Use a web browser to view the contents of the htdocs/_vti_inf.html file

* Place a FrontPage hit counter on a page and see whether it works

* If you try to browse to http://yourdomain.com/_vti_bin/shtml.dll or http://yourdomain.com/_vti_bin/shtml.exe you *should receive* the following error message if the FrontPage Server Extensions are running : "Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page:".

If you receive a different error message, the FrontPage Server Extensions *are not* running.

Thanks Rick...I am able to open the main domain site with  FP2003 now and the FP extension appears to be running when I run the http://yourdomain.com/_vti_bin/shtml.exe.  However, I am still having problem with the add-on domains.  Uninstalled & ReInstalled several times but still unable to get FP Ext running correctly on the add-on domain.  Run http://yourdomain.com/_vti_bin/shtml.exe get somekind of server error and Open for Edit in FP from browser only open in read only mode.

Ok...Running http://add-on-domain.com/_vti_bin/shtml.exe I get server error but running http://main-domain.com/addondomain/_vti_bin/shtml.exe indicates FP Extension is working.  So, How can I get FP form/fields/or submit buttons to execute http://main-domain.com/addondomain/_vti_bin/shtml.exe instead of http://add-on-domain.com/_vti_bin/shtml.exe ?

Thanks
