I just added a subdomain and uploaded the page via ftp.  However the rest of my website is managed by FrontPage.  Now I am terrified that I might have done something that will cause a problem the next time I try to publish my main site normally using FrontPage.  What is your opinion?

Also, I have heard so many things that indicate I might not run into as many problems if I were using a program such as DreamWeaver.  If I were to make the investment and try to change how I am managing my website, would I be able to convert it without a major learning curve and total makeover?

By the way, I sure am glad I made the switch last year to lunarpages.  This forum and all the expert advice is invaluable!

Hi,

Terrified may be a little stong but if creating the subdomain rewrote the htaccess file there's a good chance that HTTP publishing the features that require the extensions may not work. You'll just have to try it to find out. I'd be interested in the result.

The effort required to convert your site to Dreamweaver depends on so many factors it's hard to tell. It would depend on how many of the FrontPage special features such as themes and web components you have used as well as the effort to learn Dreamweaver. My friends that use Dreamweaver ended up taking a class to learn how to use it effectively.

If it doesn't work, do you know if I can just turn off FrontPage extensions and then turn them on again for a repair?  My site uses a theme and also shared borders on each page that are absolutely essential for site navigation.  Guess I had better wait at least until my client has viewed his proofs on the subdomain page before experimenting.  Photoshop CS has a wonderful way to instantly create a web page for displaying proofs.  My hope is to set up this subdomain so that it could be used as an FTP site so I could upload a photo a client purchases and he could download it at his end.  I can't figure out how to do something like that from within FrontPage.  Any thoughts? Confused

I dont think that creating a subdomain would rewrite the public_html htaccess, however a simple reinstall of the frontpage extensions should fix this.
as always its a good idea to backup your site locally just incase Smile

Thanks!  I feel better now.  I am going to add several more pages via FTP to the subdomain before I try publishing the main site again through FrontPage.  As long as it won't be a big deal to fix things if I lose my borders and theme, I won't sweat it. Applause
