Confused I used an FTP program to move my files to my new computer. I now have a file "public_html (along with a few others due to a needed publish page before I got the files moved). I need to change my Home Page for the season but every time I publish it still shows July. I don't have a clue what I need to do. Could you help me please?
Thanks.

Hello,

The proper way to transfer FrontPage files is to open the site in Frontpage and Publish to the new location. For example if you want to transfer the site files from the web server to a new computer, you should use frontPage to open the site on the server and publish using the "File System" option to a new empty folder on your new computer. I'll post instructions for that in the next message.

If you want to transfer the files from one computer to another, simply copy the web folder to a CD or flash drive and then copy it into the My Webs folder on the new computer. In order to get all of the files, copy the Folder, not individual files.

On Linux servers the home web folder is named public_html, so that is a folder name not a file name. You don't need the folder, just the files within the folder. Some of the files within the public_html folder are supposed to live only on the web server so if you copied everythin in the public_html folder you got files that actually aren't part of the FrontPage site (but probably don't harm it.)

To retrieve the files from the web site and bring them down to your computer for editing,

* Start FrontPage and close any webs that may be open.

* Select the File menu and choose Open Site. Open web address http://domain.com (substitute your domain name.)

* Select the File menu and choose Publish Site. Publish to the "File System" and browse to a new, empty folder on your computer. Click OK then Publish. When you publish, answer "yes" to create a web in the new folder and disregard messages informing you that some pages will not work from your computer. As you publish, all of the files will be brought down properly to your computer.

* After the publish is complete, select the File menu and choose Close Site.

* Select the File menu and choose Open Site. Browse to the new folder on your computer and Open.

* Edit pages as desired and save them. When finished, select the File menu and choose Publish Site. Publish the site to http://domain.com (substitute your domain name.)
