Hi,

In my years of domain admin, this is something I've not had to do up to now. I have a couple of domain names that I want to keep control of, (they've been registered for 10 more years) but I need to stop serving web pages and email on them. What would be the recognized method of doing this?

I have dedicated DNS on both domains.

Hello,

You can disable the domain names by simply using two nameservers for them that don't have your DNS zone. Another solution would be to use your nameservers and delete the A records , cname and MX . This means that the domain won't resolve and the emails won't be delivered. Of course, there any many other solutions to this but it depends on what you want to achieve.

Many thanks for the response, Marian. I considered putting 127.0.0.1 in the A record, but thinking about it, this still adds load to the DNS server. Maybe I can just delegate the domains to some completely fictional DNS server like ns.dummy999domain.com.

I also thought about just parking them at the registrars, which might be a good option.
