Hey everyone - I've recently been getting a lot of "undeliverable" email to some servers like AOL, stating that they wouldn't be able to be delivered as my server didn't have a reverse DNS...

Is this something I can setup myself, or do I need to pay LP to set it up for me??

Hello,

RNDS is controlled by the IP owner which is Lunarpages for this case. You will need to contact the support to get it configured. There will be $35 one time setup fee.

Thanks for that perestrelka....

Hmm...so, at the moment it seems it's just AOL and a couple of others using Reverse DNS lookups to prevent 'spam'......which means that unless I pay extra $$ my account cannot communicate with AOL customers.
.....Maybe in the future, more ISP's will take this anti-spam approach??

(What-if scenario:) If that became the case and many other ISP's blocked incoming mail with no reverse DNS, would Lunarpages automatically setup reverse DNS for all accounts? (ie, if it got to the stage where emails from a site were effectively 100% blocked because of the missing DNS) Or would LP stick with the policy that if you want to send Emails it's essentially a mandatory $35 to enable them??

Maybe it's just me - but it sorta seems this is part of the service that LP should be providing as part of a holistic hosting package??

I believe the management will take some kind of decision in case the worst scenario you described. Right now, it is impossible to say what will it be.
