I keep getting odd messages.

First it says there are no dependencies, so I try and remove it, but then I'm told it has a dependency, and when I try and remove the dependent file, I'm told there is no such file or directory.

[root@ds00027 /]# rpm -q --whatrequires perl-DBD-MySQL-2.9004-3.1
no package requires perl-DBD-MySQL-2.9004-3.1
[root@ds00027 /]# rpm -e perl-DBD-MySQL-2.9004-3.1
error: Failed dependencies:
perl-DBD-MySQL is needed by (installed) mysql-server-4.1.12-3.RHEL4.1.i386
[root@ds00027 /]# rpm -e  mysql-server-4.1.12-3.RHEL4.1.i386
error reading information on service mysqld: No such file or directory
error: %preun(mysql-server-4.1.12-3.RHEL4.1.i386) scriptlet failed, exit status 1

Any ideas?

I deleted a bunch of /etc/rc.d/ scripts by mistake.  I wonder if that is causing it.

Uh, can we start at the beginning? On what system are you trying to get rid of MySQL? Your PC, a dedicated server at LP, or an LP shared server. I can't imagine why you'd be trying to do this on an LP machine. Is this a Linux box? How did you install MySQL in the first place, and was it working correctly before you decided to remove it? A little history, please!

Dedicated at LP.

CentOS.

I want to install mysql 5.

Webmin said that mysql was not installed, so I just wanted to get rid of all the packages.
