Software to view Flash Files!
« on: April 22, 2009, 10:00:17 PM »
Would anyone one know of a good software to allow the viewing of flash files.
I have recently found and downloaded a rate system that is in flash and I can not open the files them selves to adjust what i need to in the code. I figured just uploading the file to my server would do the trick, but I get these odd symbols through out the document:
ࡱ>   , Entryp|YrRASHϓ-   Contents2tDPage 1

And also I do not have anything on my Harddrive that can open these files.
So I guess all in all before I can get these files to work on my site I need the actual code the .fla, .flv and .swf contain. Cause I know what you see above browsers can't read. So if anyone knows of a free or inexpensive software that will allow me to open these type of files would be greatly appreciated.
And Thank You in advance to anyone that can help.

http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/

Costs $700 but looks like it has a trial available.

You'll need Adobe Flash to edit flash files. To view in browser, you'll need Adobe's Flash Player[its free]
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

The code you posted is correct if you open .swf, .flv, etc. in a html editor. Browsers WILL understand that code[if they have flash installed], just navigate to it http://www.site.com/thatfile.swf

Edit: Just want to add:
You will not copy the code from inside a .swf/.flv and paste it where you want it in a webpage. You should have a special code for it, post back if you don't, and I or someone else will make the code for you.

Also, for .flv files, VLC Media Player can play those types of movie files:

Ok cool, I downloaded CS4 how do I use it to open these files? I have been playing with it for hours now and I can't seem to figure out how to open the files to get to the code to modify it. And also since I am here and this is part of the flash .php file that was provided....I need to add this to the file on line 2 of the code: $cfiledir = '/<full www root directory>/sessions/';
This is new to me. What is a root directory and how do you find it I have seen examples of them but I can't make heads or tails of it cause there is no explanation just the example. i.e. '/var/usr/f/fisch79/www/sessions/' here is an example, really this is all I get no explanation what would mine be how do I find out what the root directory would be for my sessions folder so it can write in the counter.txt.
There is support for the two flash zips I downloaded that I am trying to get to work, but the problem is that they will help, but they ask me for my cPanel password to do it. Really iff they do it for me how will I learn how to do it, plus I will not give out my cPanel info to people I never met or know.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You.

P.S. I am new to most everything except HTML and CSS......

Server root: /home/
Account root: /home/yourcPaneluser/

But they are most likely wanting you to edit the php file to the path of the flash[home/user/public_html/file.swf/flv], however could you link to where you downloaded the "flash rating" system? So I could view/explore it a bit more, and see exactly what they want you to do.

There is a software called Adobe Flash Player which will be well suited for you. It has many options for playing your animation files. This software is for free and it can be downloaded from the its own site.

Well there are lots of types of Flash software. You have to keep in mind that the file which you have currently will be best for which software. I think Flash 8 will be best option for you. But still you are not able to read that file than you have to try with Flash MX

According to me, I used the Macro Media flash application to view the flash files, we can also used the flv player to watch flash based files.

flash uncompiled files are in fla format and will open in adobe flash only, they may also open in swish max but data and fonts will change.
The compiled swf files will open in internet explorer (or any other browser) and run smoothly.

You can download Adobe FLash player, the official tool to play FLV file, or use VLC player, it works well too.
Another software i like is AppGeeker,  it has built-in player that stream almost every video format, and has an option to convert flv files to other common standard format.
check: convert flv to .mov on Mac or Windows
It has done the trick for me, although I won't give any guarantees.
