I have been doing some experiments to try and make images look like they are on TV using pattern overlays in photoshop.

The pattern I have arrived at for the moment is this one: http://www.politicsforum.org/images/junk/tv.gif

If anyone has any better TV patterns I would love to know about them, as well at the "ideal" opacity to use with them.

That's actually a pretty good TV pattern.  It sure beats the horizontal black and white striped scanlines that most people do.  The only suggestion I have is to maybe add a little noise to the layer after you've filled it with that pattern to stop it from looking so uniform across the board.

As for the blending mode and opacity settings, there are no set rules.  Experiment!  Each image that you do will probably require at least subtle tweaks to the blending mode to make them look their best.

I cant seem to see the image. It just shows me a tiny tiny tiny thumbnail saying HT? something like that at least.

But yeah dont use any of the Scanlines tutorials they arent realistic at all...and were only nice when we had to worry about bandwith (save the image as gif..and yay! Size file cut in two  "[Big )

At any rate,  do a blending of several blending mode of your main image, with different opacities and different noise/wrap put on them, that;s what is going to work the best...

Im thinking they have pictures of tv screens up on image*after. You might want to check that out. (or was that on Stock Inertia? Check those two and search for TV )

Autarkis:  If I'm not mistaken, he's using the effect on the picture in his sig.  The link goes to a 6x4 pixel image...heh.

Cheers for the advice. I hadn't thought of using the noise effects at all, I'll certainly experiment further  "[Smile]"  

Yes, I did use the pattern I linked to in the sig graphic, but am not quite happy with it, hence asking for more ideas.
