Hey!!  I want to include a Bookmark Icon on my site.

I read a paper on HTMLgoodies.com about how to do it.  I built the icon and saved it as "favicon.ico" and placed it in the root dir or public_html in this case.

When I bookmark the site, the icon doesn't appear in the favorites list. (using IE6)

Does Lunar support *.ico file types?

Also when I go to www.somedomain.com/favicon.ico it appears on the page but the color scheme seems to be altered.

Any ideas to get this working would be appreciated.

Cheers, EE Guy

I apologize...I may have posted this question a bit to early.  I turns out one may have to restart there computer once or twice before the icon appears.

All fixed and working now.

Sometimes Internet Explorer seems to be a bit funny about those .ico files.

Mine never remembers them properly, they disappear when I restart the computer.

i've found that IE 5.5 works better at 6 for some reason when it comes to displaying favicons.

take a look at this site:

This little icon lives it own life;-)
I'm allways using the link method also.

code:
 <LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="http://www.yourdomain.com/favicon.ico">

This is the code if you have it in your root folder. It's OK to put it in your image folder or whatever.

actually, I think that the bookmark icons are stored with the rest of the temp IE files, so when you dump your cached stuff, they're dumped too.  they are weird, though - sometimes they aren't even loaded into the URL address bar.  Webmonkey has a good introduction to these "favorites icons" (link), if you're interested.
