I want to make a banner for my site, that I could exchange with other sites.  I'm thinking of combining a jpg with some text, and I'd like to save the whole thing as a gif.  What software do I need to do this?

"Animation shop" from www.jasc.com is quite good.

It's fairly easy to use, and has good compression available.

If you have Photoshop 5.5 or higher, you can also easily make gifs with the save for web feature and animated gifs with Image Ready, which comes with PS 5.5 and higher.

I have both of these apps, I will let you know that jasc photo shop program is bit of a resource hog, and can slow your pc down. Making it frustrating to use. .5 is nicer on your CPU.

not complicated gifs... in that case you'd better use the above tools

I use imageready (bundled with photoshop since 5.5, so it's always good not to have to pay for something extra) works fine for me Smile
