If you're using Photoshop, hit Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S to bring up the save for web thing. Here you can tweak between a .gif and a .jpg and the amount of colours/compression that you can have. Tweak until you have a happy medium. Generally, photos or images with lots of different colours are best saved as .jpgs and flat or few-coloured images work well as .gifs.

It looks good to me. I've never really been into the abstract side of photoshop art, though, so don't value my opinion too highly. Heh.
Anyways, you're right to be saving those images as .jpgs. You get a lot more bang for your KBs that way. As a counter example, my signature image is saved as a .gif because it's only got, like, 8 or 9 main colours in it. The antialiasing is then faked by dithering (mixing pixels to give the illusion of a different colour).

still came out good in the end i heard that jpg is for more quality but also larger file size and gif is more websafe or something like that.

I sincerely liked the first one better. More subtle and peaceful. you should maybe lower the opacity of the lightning and change its color somewhat to reflect the main color theme you have going on.
Also. yes saving as a jpg is better because you have small areas of different colors all over the image. gif's are better if you have big blocks of the same color...

Try to make something that you yourself have thought of and not copy one of them spike tutorials, your work will look alot better and people will respect you more for it. Why not play with the dodge too to bring out some highlights? make it look a bit more 3d.

yes. It is Flare is right though, you should follow tutorials but...dont follow them exactly,. Learn the techniques that the people use and then use them toward your own sense of style. You will come a lot more ahead of the game that you would be if you followed tutorials exactly. Tutorials and lots of experimentations are the key to any mastering of a software program (if you wanna be self taught at least)

It takes a couple months with ps to get anything really great out of it (that is again, for self taught people. that aren't artistic geniuses )
