hey

anyone know any good programs (free is good  Razz ) for compressing down image file sizes without loosing too much quality. Have colour and B+W phitos, and also some logo's, that I want to speed up the loading time for.

well obviously Photoshop is the winner in that dept, but that is probably to expensive if you're looking for low cost to free. I think Paintshop Pro probably has some sort of optimization feature as well. you could download a trial of it and see if it does what you want. other than that i'm not really sure.

I've been using Jpg Optimizer and the other products from xat.com for years with great success.

yes those optimizers are always good (and not only for batch optimization Razz )
you should take a look into that if you do not have photoshop or paintshop pro. They're dirt cheap and work very well.

or you could use the windows port of gimpwhich is a good open source alternative to the mentioned aplications : http://www.gimp.org/~tml/gimp/win32/

Another product you can check out is ACDSEE  Smile
Not only for image optimisation.
It has a few other uses as well. Image viewing, Slideshow, Minimal alterations and html encoding. Wink

Apart from photoshop being the obvious favourite, it is not however free.

I would actually go with Pete here and say ACDSEE. Its like windows Explorer, except is meant for graphics. Right click --> File convert is all that is needed to convert files, very user friendly.
