OK all you graphic guru's, I am in a rut and needing a new logo and I guess I am in a rut cuz everything I come up with I just seem to think it can be a little better so I thought you guys could help me out maybe. Maybe I have stayed to close to the same thing and just need to see something totally different by someone else other than what I have done and thats why I am here asking for help. The only guidlines is that I need to stick with the colors used and it needs the wording PONCA CITY WEATHER CENTER and it also needs www.PONCACITYWEATHER.com and if possible without being to much I would like it to say Your Weather Source for Northern Oklahoma. With that said here is what I have had in the past  and the most current image can be seen here: http://www.poncacityweather.com or you can click on the deal to see my website on this post since I am hosting with Lunarpages. I would need these done in a size that would allow me to use on the website but I also need them in a size that would allow me to send out for vinyl graphics for my storm chase vehicles and for logo's done on hats, shirts, and whatever else. Seriously, though, while I'm almost too lazy to do work I'm being paid for, I'll be happy to dispense with the pointers and opinions. You obviously have the ability to make your own logos, anyways, so this way you learn AND get that feeling of accomplishment.
With logos, you want to keep it simple. The logos in the bottom row are just too busy. I like where you're going with the top row stuff. The black/white/blue shape looks like a tornado (I'm not sure if this was done on purpose or not) and since it has to do with weather and Oklahoma (Knowing almost nothing about Oklahoma, I am going to assume it has it's fair share of tornados), I like it. Personally, I would go with the third one on the top with some minor adjustments. I don't like the stroke on the "tornado" part. Actually, I'm not a big fan of the outer shield, either. Try a version that is just the blue/white/black tornado without the black stroke and outside shield and keep the text on top.

No, I am more than happy to pay for what I get. All I am asking is for a second set of eyes to look over my logo's I have and tell me if they see something else they can come up with that would maybe be a little nicer and if so tell me what you think and we can go from there. I don't think I ever mentioned I am looking for a handout. Don't jump the gun in the future.

Don't mind Mike, he's just a jokester. He really wouldn't bother to post to you if he didn't care a little bit about helping you. The more you post, you'll soon get to love the guy.
Now that I've defended him, which I don't really know why I needed to because he's such a little wise-butt, anyway ...
Regarding your logos ...
What look are you going for ... contemporary or conservative?
If conservative, then the 3rd logo on the bottom looks really good, but would be your typical governmental/institutional type logo. That would be perfect if you are looking for that style (the other two on the bottom row are a little too busy, like Mike said.)
If you're looking for a more contemporary look, then the first row, definitely, but possibly without the shield. They are simple and eye-catching. Hmmm, let me come back to you on this when I get a chance to see if there may be some variations you can implement (if you're not 100% satisfied with what you already did.)

Thank leighsww. It's not that I don't care for them as much as it is that I think I have been looking at them so long that I am lost in a pattern or warp zone and can't get out of it. I figured a couple sets of fresh eyes could do me some good with input or suggestions or whatever and help get me going again. I have no time frame really since I just added the one that I have now. I'm not going for the goverment look but I kind of thought a couple of them looked like that as well.

Actually, the logo you have looks pretty good on your website now. But, here's some variations since you asked for other ideas (I kept the shield-like body since that would probably look best where you currently have the logo) ...

*edited - Also, here's two ways you might want to border it (since your website background color will need to have the logo bordered in white. Hmmm. But now it starts looking like a hwy sign. Oh well, you take it from here.

Sorry to jump to conclusions, ponca. I hang out at a few other graphic forums and generally when people pop in to ask someone to design something for them, if they don't state up front that they are willing to compensate in some form, then 11 times out of 10, they have no plans on paying for the work done. I can't tell you how many times I've heard a variation of "Well, you guys do this type of thing for fun, so I thought you might as well help me out in the process. I thought you'd thank me for giving you something to do." Knee jerk reaction and all that.
Anyways, after that first line in my post, I was being sincere. Also, after looking at your designs and the submissions leigh did, I've decided I'm not too fond of the "PC" in the logo, either. Since you already have Ponca City in there, PC is just overkill, especially since it's not an overly aesthetically pleasing letter combo to begin with.
Leigh, onthe fourth one on the top, I really like the sun peaking out from behind the tornado. You've got the black then the tornado which conotes storm and then the peaking sun and the blue for the nice day after the storm. If you got rid of the PC, that one would be my favourite.

Or was Mike's intuitive mind just working overtime? In any case, perfect choice of colors and pattern for your logo theme! Anyway, I added the last logo on the bottom after reading Mike's comment. You need to grab this jpg off my server so you have a copy to refer to if you will be implementing from it. I will be removing it from my server in about a week. Let us know when you finish the final logo. I'd like to see how it looks on your website. |

Mike, thanks for the reply back. Sorry I took your first reply the way I did. As for the suggestions, thank you very much. I too liked the 4th image that Leigh done. The sun poking out from behind the tornado image is what we see here sometimes. And Mike, as for Oklahoma and Tornado's, I live in Kay County and we have more tornado's per square mile than any other spot on the face of the earth. We have also had the largest tornado ever recorded which was in excess of 320mph. Kind of fun chasing them too.
I am working up something right now to see how it looks and I will post it here when I get it finished for your guys' input. I guess after spending what I did to have the site redone that I want it to all be perfect and the logo for some reason just stuck out asking for help. I have had some people say they really like it but maybe I just have this deal since I done it and think it coudld have been better.......

I wanted the logo for the side of our storm chase vehicles mainly so I had to have a tornado in it somewhere. |
